"The Senate passed a bill to increase allocations for mental health programs last year, but the House didn't."

we must do better than what is being done now. i don`t want another disturbed vet having his legs set on fire and then amputated because some punks thought he was not a human being just a stupid old drunk.

1. We have posters here that don't think it is right to increase the funding.
They didn't vote for the military adventurism and therefore feel no need to support any promises made to veterans of those misadventures. Why should they pay? These are fellow DUers, I will add! The Country cannot afford to honor these all of these commitments so it should instead simply renign upon them. Sorry.

As a vet, I was upset to say the least.

2. Republicans only respect blood injuries...
bullet holes, amputations, bodies torn to bits, that sort of thing. Internal injuries, either physical like the all too common brain trauma, or emotional, like PTSD are not real to them (they can't be seen with a naked eye). So the people that suffer them are really just cowards and slackers. Gen. Patton would be proud.

And even with the blood injuries, they want to give you a medal and send you on your way.

These people make me ill.

3. Did you see 60 minutes last night? They have a new drug that
helps people with post traumatic stress related problems. It was really neat, and I think the military is looking into it. It doesn't erase the memory just the awful reprocessing of that memory and the experiences created by the adrenal rush associated with it. I hope it is web casted so you guys can check it out.

4. That's great, but
I can see how such a drug could be exploited to make war more palatable.

That said, of course I want our veterans to have every service they need and require. It is unconscionable to do any less. If people don't want to pay for these costs of unnecessary and unwinnable wars, they should not blithely acquiese to our government starting these wars, period.

6. You had the same response as one of the commentators, I think
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 08:59 AM by I_Make_Mistakes
he was an admin. guy, I was (edit)putting wash in the dryer, so, I am not sure. He basically said that people would be able to treat things that should way on their conscience, and have no guilt. I think that if it was used ethically, it would be great.

They had a woman who as a child was raped repeatedly by her doctor and couldn't even bare being openly naked around her husband, it haunted her for her life until the drug experiment. She wasn't even supposed to be affected by the drug in the study (she wasn't selected for the benefit side), but at least now, she is happily naked in front of her husband.

They had a subway conductor who had someone jump in front of her train, and was obviously traumatized.

5. Actually it's not a new drug, it's an old drug. It's been around
for maybe 50 years for the treatment of high blood pressure and is very safe. That was an interesting piece on 60 Minutes.

7. Thanks, I was doing laundry so was catching the gist, but not the
entire picture. I will actually go check out the full story again, I linked to it above. I missed that it has been around for awhile, I can see how it could be abused, but then again, what drug hasn't been abused?

8. Sunday afternoon laundry.
I'm glad to hear that I am not alone among the folks who are doing their laundry and watching TV on Sunday pm's. Even now that I am semi-retired, I find I am doing the damn laundry on Sundays, all afternoon. What a drag.
