Neighbors go to war over peace wreath
From the Associated Press:
A homeowners association in southwestern Colorado has threatened to fine a resident $25 a day until she removes a Christmas wreath with a peace sign that some say is an anti- Iraq war protest or a symbol of Satan.

Some residents who have complained have children serving in Iraq, said Bob Kearns, president of the Loma Linda Homeowners Association in Pagosa Springs. He said some residents have also believed it was a symbol of Satan. Three or four residents complained, he said.

"Somebody could put up signs that say drop bombs on Iraq. If you let one go up you have to let them all go up," he said in a telephone interview Sunday.

Lisa Jensen said she wasn't thinking of the war when she hung the wreath. She said, "Peace is way bigger than not being at war. This is a spiritual thing."
Lisa Jenson, it seems, is catching heat for her convictions. Why, tell me, didn't this woman catch heat for her lack of convictions?
Staff Sgt. Jason Rivera, 26, a Marine recruiter in Pittsburgh, went to the home of a high school student who had expressed interest in joining the Marine Reserve to talk to his parents.

It was a large home in a well-to-do suburb north of the city. Two American flags adorned the yard. The prospect's mom greeted him wearing an American flag T-shirt.

"I want you to know we support you," she gushed.

Rivera soon reached the limits of her support.

"Military service isn't for our son. It isn't for our kind of people," she told him.

4. It's their interpretation of the symbol itself
They see it as an upside down broken cross and hence, anyone who uses it is basically anti-christian. In their logic, the devil will quote scripture, therefore despite the symbol being used for peace, they see otherwise. Sigh. I remember my grandmother once told me not to write Christmas as "Xmas" - because that was being anti-christian. Her explanation was by writing it so, Christ was being "crossed-out". I say its all balony now, but all that Catholic training as a kid still make me hesitate. Anyway - for what's it worth...

in a "planned unit development."

these places are utter nightmares- with little Nazi wannabes controlling their "homeowners' associations."

Frankly, I think they ought to be much more highly regulated- and I think people who live in them should pay a special assessment at closing and each year thereafter for all the time they use up in court with their frivolous little squabbles.

5. "Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be fined"
I believe Osama Bin Laden said that.

6. What would be more appropriate than a Christmas wreath with a peace sign?
I guess the Home Owners Assoc., would be satisfied with swastika rather than a peace symbol.
