That Would Make Denny Hastert President
So, I'm reading how both Bush and Cheney are out of the country. And while they may not be in plain view, let's pretend, as in the words of Pat Robertson, that someone "takes them out" while in lands that could be construed as less than secure for this administration.

If that were to happen prior to Pelosi becoming the new Speaker, the line of succession would fall to Hastert. Pelosi would still be the new speaker come January, but the new Prez would be Denny. Yeah, I know, I feel your pain.

is an absolute slob, an ugly disgusting porker, Hastert would have even less influence than Bush. Hastert wouldn't be able to do anything for the republican's...Hastert is a pile of shit and everyone knows it....even the media wouldn't be able to shine a pretty light on that slob...The Dem's would be able to get legislation passed, and pressure the unlikeable, unpopular Hastert. Bush will be obstinate with his usual arrogant, vindictive spoiled little shit frat boy that he is and veto everything the Dems offer...the unappealing lying pig Hastert wouldn't have that luxury.

Though it would never happen, so it really makes it senseless.

5. Does Denny stay in until Bush's term is up?
Or would the incoming Speaker (Pelosi) take over?

he wants to like Ford did to Nixon. Bush and the cabal could very well get away with all of this shit and then set up shop in Paraguay.

what's to stop them? The rotten-bastards certainly have enough lawyers, money and residual power to do what they want.

10. He would stay until Jan 09 just as Ford
completed Nixon's term. But wait, there's more: He could run for president, win and stay until Jan 13. Sweet dreams.

15. Said the body to the malignant tumor.
So far my answer is that it's for the Constitution, not the country. Besides, we're damned if we don't.

you're using right now. Sorry, but not even I, Queen Conspiracist, can buy that Ken is still alive.

14. That would be a hell of a show.
I certainly don't wish death or even physical injury on either the President or the Vice-President. If it happens, though, and at least one is not instantly killed, I would be on the lookout for a lot of House Republicans to insist on ventilators and feeding tubes (and a bunch of Frist "sure looks alive to me" diagnoses) while they have an emergency vote on a new Speaker.

19. Folks here in Illinois 14 would be proud
if Denny became president. We re-elected him with 60% of the vote. He is a saint in these parts. The 40% who think he is a buffoon might be a tad disillusioned but then again we progressives here in Illinois 14 are quite accustomed to being politically disillusioned.

22. If they had taken up the fight with the ultimatum: Hastert now or Pelosi in 2007. . .
. . .We might have seen the backs of Bush and Cheney earlier this year. . . or in 2005. . . or in 2003. . .

Impeaching Bush and Cheney is not, and never was, about partisanship. It is about rescuing the Constitution. It is about taking the massive power of the American Presidency out of the hands of lawless men drunk with power who have usurped our will and violated our laws in plain sight.

The so-called "leaders" of the Democratic Party had their chance to prove they were acting on principle, not partisan concerns. They blew it. They were derelict in their duty.

Impeachment remains a moral imperative, but now they have a problem -- a hole they dug themselves into. Accusations that they are mounting a partisan coup http://journals.democraticunderground.com/pat_k/12">can be dealt with but there is no way around the perception that they didn't have the courage to stand and fight for principle until they thought it was "safe" (which confirms the perception that Democrats are weak).
