So why can't NANCY Pelosi be President?
So many people are throwing up names for 08. Yet an obvious person is Nancy Pelosi. Why not?

9. to run for President
you have to set up your campaign right now. The election is in two years, but the campaign has already started.

2. Well, she has name recognition now...
I'd love to see a woman President, personally. I think if you put a good enough female candidate on the ballot, she might really have a shot now. My Dad wants to see a woman President bad enough he'd vote for Hillary.

Oh, did I say that out loud?

Is Nancy Pelosi a good candidate?

3. Does she want to be President?
That would be my first question.
The second would be does she want to be President in 2 years?
Another would be has she given any indication she's even thinking about running for President?
I'm guessing that right now she probably has a lot of other stuff on her mind.

I guess I don't think she's an obvious person --- yet.

11. Bingo.!!.
If the Supreme (sic) Court can install Bush, then The People can install Pelosi by impeaching Bush and Cheney.

15. In January
after the DEMS take control of Congress, then Bush and Cheney can resign together. Nancy Pelosi then becomes the first woman President of the United States.

6. I have no problem with a female president, I don't really care.
Edited on Mon Nov-27-06 11:54 PM by Selteri
I want a competent president who cares about the people, not about corporations and that I fear may be a non-existant or overly idealistic ponderance. I for one would have no proble with Nancy as she is at least someone who has a good voting record of being more for the people than most.

10. James K. Polk
The only person to be both speaker and president. Professionally, though, why would you want to go from Speaker to President? The speaker is (arguably) the second most powerful position in the country, and you don't have to deal with most of the PR headaches that the president does. Sure you have headaches, but they aren't as big and don't last a long as a president's.

13. She may have to....
But I thought you were asking about her running in '08. I don't think she will. Personally, I think she has no chance at running in '08. There's too much to do as speaker that if she spends a good portion of the next two years splitting time between her current job and her campaign, she won't be successful with either.

14. The biggest thing against Ms. Pelosi running for President would be her age
She will be 67 years old in March.

We don't know if she wants to run for president. She probably doesn't. It would be inappropriate for her to speculate publicly on what she would do if whe were to succeed to the presidency upon the impeachment and removal of Bush and Cheney.

18. True. That's the only way she's going to become president
I'm all for a double impeachment that would make Speaker Pelosi president.

However, it will have to be done right -- it still takes 67 votes in the Senate to convict and that means the case has to be compelling enough to get 16 Republicans to vote guilty, assuming Lieberman votes with the Democrats.

And through all that, it would be inappropriate for Speaker Pelosi to even hint that she really wants to be president.

17. I think her interest is being Speaker of the House.
I don't think she would want to give that up now to try a run at the Presidency.

19. I'm sure that if Nancy Pelosi wanted to run for President, she'd be running for President
not getting her Speaker's office organized.

I think she's doing exactly what she wants to do.
