Rumsfeld's Ego May Delay Gates' Swearing In
Click here to read this embarrasing story.

<snip>

Officially, the White House spin is that Robert Gates will be sworn in as Rumsfeld's replacement -- two weeks after his confirmation -- once Gates winds up affairs as president of Texas A&M University.

But Gates on Nov. 8 announced he would quit A&M on "completion of the confirmation process and a Senate vote."

1. Maybe he is trying to stall
for time on his indictment also. As soon as he gives up his office, he goes on trial, dude.

3. interesting point
although a one-month extension isn't going to change much there. i don't think there's a statute of limitations question.

4. Sounds like something he
would do that's for sure. Only he will also be on record as the worst too.

5. this is all about the blood feud between Poppy and Rummy, Poppy personally removed him from the
cabinet, probably thru a deal to save the administration.. i am surprised Poppy hasn't bitch slapped Dubya in public over the mess he made of their name..

6. The shredding company hasn't finished with Cheney's docs yet.
Gotta wait for him to get over to DoD.

8. It is about History. If they
wait to replace him he will be the longest serving DOD in history. I think that comes on December 28th or something like that.

9. that's in the linked story
but seriously, what's more important, rummy's record, or turning around the iraq war.

furthermore, if bush really wanted to replace rummy at midyear, but didn't because he didn't want to hurt the GOP in the mid-term elections, doesn't that suggest the administration's priorities are out of whack?

every family who lost a soldier since bush wanted to replace rumsfeld has to wonder, what if the administration didn't put politics first?
