Jes' pissin' in the Cheerios of entrenched, largely unaccountable power!
Chicago Tribune, LTTE, 11/25:
This is regarding "'I have to make this right'; Tribune exclusive: In 1997, June Siler named Robert Wilson as the man who attacked her; Today, she's convinced he's not and blames police for the mix-up" (Page 1, Nov. 15), by Tribune staff reporter Maurice Possley. I just wanted to write in to express my appreciation for the fine work that Possley continues to do in exposing the profound flaws of our American criminal "justice" system. Whether they result from police corruption in manufacturing "evidence"; prosecutorial complicity for the sake of gaining a conviction, rightful or not; or judicial incompetence, all the wrongful convictions on which the Trib has reported make it clear that a major overhaul should be done to the system. I think a great first step would be to make prosecutors criminally liable for their complicity in illegally obtained convictions.
Chicago Sun-Times, LTTE, 11/26:
The feature on President Bush's decision to make holiday phone calls from his safe and comfortable bubble at Camp David <"President gives a shout-out to soldiers around the world," Nov. 24> should have been headlined "Lame duck too chicken to serve turkey to troops" in the interest of accuracy. With Iraq spinning out of control and into civil war because of his disastrous inadequacy as "decider"-in-chief, the photo-op stunt of posing with a decorative turkey in the Green Zone apparently was out of the question this time. Wouldn't be prudent, I guess.
(removed by editors ) But he did make it to Vietnam, albeit 35 or so years late, so he's got that going for him.
