Wesley Clark Eyes 2008 White House Run (CBS News Politcs Headline)
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/28/politics/main2213548.shtml

(AP) Wesley Clark said Tuesday he wants to avoid waiting too late to make a decision on whether to run for president — a mistake he made in his failed 2004 bid.

“I think it was clear that I got in too late last time,” the retired general and former NATO commander told The Associated Press in an interview.

Clark announced his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in September 2003, just four months before the first votes were cast. He dropped out of the race the following February, with his only victory in 14 caucuses and primaries coming in Oklahoma.

Clark is considering running again, but he said the late start was one of the mistakes he learned from in his last attempt.

Clark on Domestic Issues
Wes Clark has his masters in economics and philosophy, taught at West Point, dealt with the domestic issues such as infrastructure, education, family support and so forth during his many military commands. He performed along the lines of a governor for the giant military communities he oversaw and is well versed in such issues. He is also a leading voice for environmental needs, technology advances and had the best tax plan of any candidate when he ran in 03/04. His expertise goes far beyond military and foreign policy.

He should go for it, because generals always win presidential elections.

6. I hope he throws his hat in the ring. I liked him, but couldn't vote
for him in our primary because he had already dropped out by the time Virginia's came around.

And he dropped out after...

18. It's OK - the media simply forgot to report on him... A LOT
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 10:22 PM by Clark2008
My x( face was more directed at how the media ignored him than to you. I mean, you live there and didn't know he was on the ballot - and I rather suspect it was because of the lack of media coverage.

Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 09:51 PM by NV1962
I had the immense privilege and pleasure of meeting him during his third visit to Reno, in the midterm elections campaign. What impressed me most was his determination.

He's ready. It's a matter of picking the right moment.

And once he announces, he'll be the man to beat for 2008.

Wes da man!

Oh - and if it's a boy, Simon Marshall - Marshall after Gen. George Marshall of Marshall Plan fame. Tell me we ain't Democrats (and, for one of us, fighting Dems)! I lobbied for Simon Wesley, but Marshall was a compromise. :)

13. CLARK. . .GORE. . .GORE. . .CLARK. . .
the

TWO BEHEMOTHS

for the Democratic Party. . .positioned on the sidelines until the time is just right to add serious debate and discourse to the 2008 campaign. . .these two will just blow the others away. . .

BOTH are the SMARTEST, most QUALIFIED, LIKABLE, "DOERS" of the Democratic Party.

Either and/or both will make a MOST MAGNIFICENT WINNING 2008 TICKET !!

GORE = CLARK

19. Is this a regional thing?
I sometimes feel alone thinking that Clark and Gore stand so far above all others. However international relations with the Muslim world is the 500 pound issue now. While the other Democrats were meeting to discuss the situation in Iraq, Clark was giving an invited lecture at a conference, 4th Arab Strategy Forum see http://www.ameinfo.com/102965.html .
While other Democrats can truthfully claim they are not Bush, Clark has the admiration of 1.5 Albanian Muslims.

17. he definitely will o better
those two vids I loaded up on youtube that got tons of rec's are a sure sign he is ready, willing, and able!

he will trounce anyone who calls him weak on issues, or a homo lover, and worst nato commander, etc, with intelligence and incredible information recall!

I cannot wait, I wanted him to win so bad last time...

If Gore runs, he'll pick Clark for VP if Gore wins.. how weird if Gore were to win, he was VP for 8 years, then out of the public eye for 8 years, then could be president. I prefer Wes, but I'll take Gore... That leaves Edwards waiting for another 8 years, he's still pretty young, he can make it. I like him, but He'll have to battle with Obama then... lol

21. Clark thinks we should stay in Iraq till we 'win'?
WTF?

Clark said Iraq will be a focus of the 2008 campaign. He disagreed with suggestions by some members of Congress that more U.S. troops should be sent to help stabilize Iraq. Neither would he begin reducing U.S. forces in Iraq within the next six months, as others have suggested.

“It's not a matter of fiddling with troop levels,” Clark said. “It's a matter of politics inside Iraq and diplomacy in the region. ... You can lose what's going on militarily inside Iraq, but you can't win it militarily, either by putting more forces in or by pulling them out.”
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2006/11/28/politics/main2213548.shtml

I guess if you think back to what Clark was saying before and at the start of the war, this is not surprising.

27. I read what he said, and it's NOT what you're saying.
Nowhere does he say what you're claiming. You're making a leap of logic, as has already been pointed out to you in the thread you started.

He says we CAN'T WIN militarily. That does NOT mean "We can win if we stay the course." :eyes:

that's the whole point of the exercise.

New face doesn't necessarily mean "new". we'll get to the bottom of it very shortly.....at that, you have my word! :pals:

30. Funny, because I kinda thought...
I always thought Clark's late entry in 2004 was something of a plus...People had gotten sick of the candidates, and Clark, as you may remember, became the new frontrunner overnight. I guess he did sort of get the PROCESS started late (raising money, building a network,e stablishing a platform, etc.) Let's hope that is the mistake he means to avoid.
I like Clark. I don't know that I like his odds in the field of candidates that is developing. He should do better, since the netroots have developed a real love for the guy. But who can predict at this point?
