Got to meet Jim Webb this evening... |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-28-06 11:01 PM by SaveElmer
He came to our Democratic Committee meeting this evening to thank everyone and talk a bit about the election and what he will be doing. He was of course great...talked alot about how the election turned out compared to expectations. They estimated that the poor weather in Northern Virginia may have cost them up to 50K votes. Talked about the issues he ran on...Iraq, Economic fairness...and most important of all in my book, about building the Democratic Party into a true majority party, about keeping up the fight particularly in Virginia where we have statewide elections every year. We will be trying to take back the state legislature next year.
He was very complimentary of Mark Warner and Tim kaine, and talked alot about getting Gov. Kaine the help he needs in the elections next year. Overall a really great talk. Also overheard him saying his baby is due any day now, so he may be lying low before too long! It was the first time I had seen him in person, and I was duly impressed!
I really think in this new class of Democratic Senators coming in...all of whom are top notch...that Jim Webb will really distinguish himself!

2. Dang, I'm sorry I missed the meeting... |
|
But with night classes, I rarely make them during the semester. Shoot. Well, I'm glad you were able to meet him. He's one cool customer, that's for sure. It just blows me away how smart the guy is.

7. I didn't know he was to be there either. |
|
Probably for the best that I didn't, though. Too tempting to cut class, and it's the last week. But, I was fortunate to see and meet him a few times over the campaign, so I shouldn't gripe.

6. I'm jealous, I'm a big fan of Senator-Elect Webb |
|
And while the 50k votes is unfortunate he still won and that's what matters. Next time around Senator Webb will probably be re-elected in a landslide.

8. Well what is amazing is... |
|
Even with the rain we had a very high turnout...they were expecting very high numbers. For example in the precinct I worked we had 1300 voters this time around, 400 more than the last midterm election. Yeat they were expecting several hundred more than that based on canvassing etc.

I'm confident we are looking at a future Democratic presidential candidate. Maybe 2012.

13. Wish he HAD smacked Bush |

It would be the best-selling DVD in history. I like our new people, and they're going to take away some DUMB issues the Repukes have been selling forever, such as gun rights.

Jim Webb is exactly what Virginia and this country needs right now. He's right, the turnout was much lower than I had expected, but I figured that lots of 'pubbies had stayed home. The IG candidate actually got 26,000 votes too, so that may have been a factor, although I don't know what it was.
Thanks for the report SaveElmer!!!:kick:

15. I ran into Ted Kennedy once 10 years ago. He was a dick. |
|
Which made him allthemore cool for me for some reason. I forget why I was in the Capitol, but I was waiting for the elevator and it opened and there he was and I said "Greetings Senator" and he totalled ignored me as if I didn't exist. What a shithead. God I love that man.
