DU to the rescue! Help by signing this petition for Madison AAR listeners
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/720087508

You might have heard how Clear Channel is planning on killing the Air America channel and replacing it with Fox Sports on January 1. There are already two of those channels available in this mid-size market. Let's also just say that a lot of Madison folks have given the station some of the best ratios in the area...and they don't want to switch from Randi Rhodes to some freakin' high school kickball tournament.

And you may know that many Fox Sports channels have this funny way of filling in the drive times and mid-afternoon airwaves with Hannity, Limbaugh and the other ilk. The Trojan Horse effect...there are already a couple right-wing stations as it is.

Even if you don't live in Madison, you might enjoy the nice FM stereo version as a stream:

There are about 4,500 signatures so far with 7,000 needed by December 11. You betcha, time is a tickin'.

3. You only have two hate radio stations?
I should move to Madison. In Chicago there are at least 5.

4. If you're really desparate for hate radio, some Chicago stations are available
On the AM dial, I can pick up several Chicago stations that have the usual suspects on. In terms of Madison, there is one very severe hate station with a local bent...the wench who tirades on that station, Vicki McKenna, hopefully is smoking herself to death...

8. If they own the station then they can do as they please.

Until the FCC rules & laws are changed creating some kind of balance, there's nothing one can really do.

As with the AAR station in Phoenix - Nova M had to buy their own station after being kicked off their previous station which they did not own in favor of Christian programing, even though there are six other stations with the exact same Christian format in the Phoenix area....and petition after petition didn't matter...they simply refused to sell air time to liberal AAR.

They don't care if they lose money and have ten stations in one area with the exact same format, just as long as they stop the liberal message from getting out there and being heard, that's what's important to them, money to them is no object, they spent many years buying up stations, changing the rules to control the message for their agenda & ideology, they aren't going to just let it slip through their fingers over money...and if they can get get more of their messengers like Limbaugh through so much the better. They have the money and a lot of rich right-wing anonymous backing. And it pays off in the long run for them by controlling the flow of information or non-information & mis-information.

The only way to change this is for progressives to buy stations (but many station owners won't sell to progressives). The only other option is to try and change the FCC rules, which the executive branch, (BushCo) who controls the FCC and uses it as bait to keep the media broadcasting only the messages the republicans want heard.
