Would Gore announce his candidacy at the Oscars if he chooses to run?
I get the idea that the conventional wisdom for Gore's chances is, if he wants to run, then he should do it later than many of the other candidates (unlike Clark in 2004, Gore has campaign experience, having run for President twice and VP twice, in addition to all his House and Senate campaigns for when he was in Congress) so responding to a draft wouldn't be negative for his chances.

One possible occasion for when he could announce to garner publicity is during the Oscars. I'm not sure in "An Inconvenient Truth" has been nominated for an Oscar yet (I don't know when the nominees at announced) but if it gets nominated and the documentary wins, I would love to see Gore make his announcement while accepting. Of course, doing so could be used against him as a publicity stunt, with subtle jabs at "liberal Hollywood" along with it...but it would still garner a lot more attention then, say, Tom Vilsack having to announce over and over again.

2. I don't think Al Gore would get to accept the award
Gore is credited as an actor. I think Davis Guggenheim would accept if it won.

5. No, the producers (Laurie David, Lawrence Bender and others) would get the
award for the Documentary category.

Al Gore will be on that stage with them.

3. He doesn't need to announce.
If it wins and he makes a great speech, the chattering classes will give him momentum without him having to announce.

6. Very doubtful....
He would not distract from the message by announcing it at the Oscars. He'd want the movie and it's message to get all the glory and attention. I personally think that if he runs he'd wait til AFTER the Oscars to announce.

That said - I pray to all the gods and goddesses every day that he DOES run. I have pledged to work 24/7/365 if necessary to get him into the WH. He's the only person I really want to run - I think he's just about the only one who can handle the boatload of manure that has to be cleaned up from the criminal chimp's misadministration.

7. You're so right Ms. Liberty
He wouldn't hog the spotlight from the rest of Inconvenient Truth by announcing there and then.

I'm with ya on the wanting him to run too. I would build alters to Zeus, God and Allah if I thought it would help.

I'm not too impressed with the current field of declared or potential candidates (although I kinda like Obama, Edwards and Clark...but inexperience worries me with the first two.)

On the up side, I think that a Gore candidacy would definately unite DU and keep the site from descending into a full-blown civil war.
