WaPo readers set George Will straight about his attack on Jim Webb

You may have missed this charming little column written by George Will; maybe you saw that several people at DU had posted prior reports about the exchange between Senator-elect Webb and *, and unlike Will's column, included the full conversation. So, take a look at Will's nasty and disingenuous attack, then take a look at the more than 50 pages of comments posted at the website responding to the many weaknesses (a civil way of putting it, n'est-ce pas?) of Mr. Will's column. I picked about 10 pages at random, read the comments, and saw I think 3 comments even partially supportive of Will's comments. It was refreshing.

Since the Washington Post has refused to fire this right wing, dishonest hack, perhaps they will be willing to force him to read every single comment.

Edited to add link to the comments:

4. Don't forget how stupid the Omsbudsman is. Did Will write a column about Cheney's "@#*! yourself"?

9. I don't know if Li'l' Debbie comments on columns
Edited on Thu Nov-30-06 10:08 PM by spooky3
but if she does, she's sure to say something dippy about this one. Probably something along the lines of how nasty and rude all those "left wing bloggers" are.

Several of the commenters raised the issue you did also. And several asked if he spoke in hushed, reverent tones when Bill Clinton was Prez.

5. He's Going to be My Senator
and I'm proud of him! If George Willshad half the brain power Jim Webb has, he wouldn't be writing such dribble!

6. Sounds like Webb's more unforgivable sin was misusing 'literally'
Good grief. Tear him from limb to limb for THAT crime. This is a surprisingly shoddy piece of writing for George Will. On two levels. The last sentence alone should be in the Clunky Writing Hall of Fame:

"He already has become what Washington did not need another of, a subtraction from the city's civility and clear speaking."

As far as the clear speaking goes, it's a sentence the reading public does not need another of. Boo, George Will.

7. 67 pages of letters to respond to Will's column
99% of which are supportive of Webb.

Guess a lot of people agree with us.
