Poll question: Should We Get A $50 Tax Break Or $50 Tax Credit For Voting? |
|
a caller on randi's show today brought up this idea.
it wouldn't be mandatory voting--but it would be (another) incentive to vote

1. Ideally, we should be proud enough of our country to want to vote. |

I long for when people embrace their inalienable right because it matters.

Half of them are disgusted with politicians and think they're all full of shit. The other are too dim witted to care.

you shouldn't get paid for voting you should do it because it's good for the country and the people in it. An incentive like that would encourage people with no interest to just do it for the money which doesn't seem right.

It reduces you tax dollars owed, whereas, a deduction only reduces the amount your figure tax on.:smoke:

6. Just use vote-by-mail...lower the barriers |
|
I think many more people would vote if it were just a bit easier. Paying people to vote seems a bit unseemly.

In the ideal world, voting just because it's your "duty" would be great. Unfortunatley, we dont live in that world. Alot of people I know express political opinions throughout the year, but when election time comes, they just dont bother. A 50$ reward would be the motivation needed.

12. A better way to motivate people to vote |
|
Is to offer up a platform, and a candidate who will make a real difference in the lives of most Americans. You know, let's start addressing things like UHC, publicly financed election campaigns, a strategy for getting us out of Iraq ASAP. You start offering these things, along with a candidate who isn't a corporate controlled manequin, and you will get voters swarming to the polls.

to the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November. Makes election day a de facto holiday giving people one less excuse not to vote and reminds people the best way to honor those who have served protecting our democracy is to use it.
Bribing citizens to vote is pathetic.

15. I've decided it's just as well some people don't bother to vote. |
|
A whole lot of them are too stupid and/or too lazy to learn about the candidates and issues and would be more easily led by advertising.
