GOP cries foul over new Dem committee on intelligence oversight
http://www.rawstory.com/news/2007/Dems_New_Committee_may_not_improve_0110.html

The second of three bills passed in the first 100 hours of the new Congress, dealing with oversight on the budgets of America's spies, emerged in a heavily partisan atmosphere. So bad, that one Republican Congressman said that if the shoe was on the other foot that Democrats would be "screaming bloody murder."

...

The bill, written by Rep. David Obey, the Democratic Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, creates a subcommittee that will "review and study on a continuing basis budget requests for and execution of intelligence activities."

...

The Republicans' real concerns, however, were more clearly stated by Rep. Roy LaHood (R-IL). "Our leader has no say in who is appointed to this task force or committee," he said, expressing fear that Republicans would have no influence on the oversight process that would emerge.

"Unprecedented. You would never stand for that. Mr. Obey and Mr. Hastings, you would be up here screaming bloody murder if we tried to pull that stunt," he added.

Republicans are crying foul because they don't get to help pick who's in charge of the oversight???

WTF?!?!

They've had *12 YEARS* to setup such oversight! Where have they been? Busy replacing their rubber stamps??

1. And if the shoe was on the other foot, the GOP would ignore us, too.
But the shoe isn't on the other foot. The boot is their ass, and they're fucking whiny crybabies. All anyone kept saying when they were in charge and screwing over the democrats was that the GOP wouldn't be in charge forever, and they should be careful. Well guess what? They wouldn't listen. So fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all. I don't care in the slightest about hurting their feelings.

2. For twelve years in control of congress and 6 years
telling the democrats what to do, how come now, when the democrats are trying to clean up all the corruption in congress the republicans think they can shut the democrats up. THE DEMS SHOULD PROCEED...THEY SHOULD NOT STOP THE INVESTIGATIONS. What have these guys have to hide if they don't want an oversight.

4. My hand just itches when they talk like that.
In a just world, a big hand would come down and slap them silly after that kind of crap.

Or is that the definition of karma?

6. If true, then I agree with LaHood.

I would not want Republicans, when in the majority, selecting which Democrats would sit on the subcommittee.

I find it hard to believe we would do something like that. So I'm betting that either LaHood is full of it or is taking something way out of context.

7. Thank GOD!!
Knowing that Bush as appointed oil execs to environmental positions, Coal execs to pollution positions and even a Veternarian for a women's health group position, I think I prefer the democrats to appoint someone for this particular position
