I watched Tim Russert tonight and he had a couple of authors |

on that had written books about Iraq. The way I got it was they thought Bush even sees that the "Surge" idea was a long shot, but because of the oil over their we will have go back if we do leave now. They didn't say this, but even if that is true they would be immensely weakened by a Civil war by that time and probably easier to defeat if need be. The rule "Never fight a preventive war today so as to prevent a war tomorrow." Still works for me. People bring up Chamberlain as to what happens when you procrastinate, but by waiting the World found out what they were up against and were more determined. I believe FDR did this with the Japs on their bombing of Pearl Harbor.

There are several theories about this. I believe it's about imperial presidency and power. to begin with and after 9-11 it bacame a paranoia as well.
