Cheney on Baghdad to BBC in 1992
An old school friend of mine just found out her son (USMC) will be re-deployed to Iraq for the third time. She's is very, very upset. She sent me this excerpt of an interview Cheney gave to the BBC in February, 1992. May he and his ilk rot in hell.......

Excerpt from interview between Dick Cheney and the BBC:

Scarsdale, N.Y. on Feb. 16, 1992 -- Dick Cheney, then secretary of defense, told the BBC why we had not pressed on to Baghdad: ....... "If we'd gone to Baghdad and got rid of Saddam Hussein - assuming we could have found him - we'd have had to put a lot of forces in and run him to ground someplace. He would not have been easy to capture. Then you've got to put a new government in his place and then you're faced with the question of what kind of government are you going to establish in Iraq? Is it going to be a Kurdish government or a Shiite government or a Sunni government? How many forces are you going to have to leave there to keep it propped up, how many casualties are you going to take through the course of this operation?"

Okay Dick, how many?

5. This is the point we have to understand, they are not stupid people
Edited on Mon Jan-15-07 03:23 PM by Pawel K
Bush is not stupid even if he plays an idiot on TV, cheney is not stupid, none of them are stupid. They knew exactly what they were doing when they decided sometime in 1997 that they would invade Iraq and they knew of the consequences. They knew there were no WMDs and they knew taking out Saddam would start a civil war within that country.

What they also knew was that a war with Iraq would make their buddies extremely rich and they would be able to control a huge supply of oil.

This rosy picture they tried to paint that this would would take weeks and not months was bullshit and they knew it. This is why, against everyone's advice, they are currently escalating this war.
