What do you expect from the Plame trial?
I guess I missed a discussion or article regarding what to expect from the Libby/Plame trial. For so long, it was sort of like a soap opera...don't miss an episode or you are totally out in left field. The last "scene" I saw gave me the impression Fitz was in hot pursuit of Cheney and that the "buzzard" would finally be exposed. Now, I read that they are only going to try to prove Libby was lying to the Grand Jury. I'd like to know what the rest of you expected?

2. I'm expecting
to discover something about the way things worked in the White House at the time of the leak. Even if Cheney isn't charged, what comes out is bound to look bad.

4. Yes, something like "who knew what, and when did they know it?"
Who was in on the outing of Plame.

The big questions are what did Cheney and Chimpy know or do? I just hope the prosecutor has the timeline down pat, because there'll be a whole lotta perjury goin' on.

3. I expect Libby to be convicted, and IF Cheney appears, he will claim
National Security won't let him answer anything except Libby was a Terrific Assistant! I'll be very surprised if uch more comes out ofthe whole thing.

5. I certainly hope to see Fitzgerald nailing Cheney on the stand.
That would be lovely.

11. I meant it figuratively, of course, but I'd sure love
to at least read later about Fitzgerald tearing Cheney a new one when he tries to plead executive privilege. Oh, to be a fly on the wall!

13. Cheney is the best debater they have got, he is unlikely to screw up.

Naw, nothing is going to come up out of it. I would'nt
get my hopes up.

And anyways, the "decider" will pardon Libby before leaving
office.

14. it will most certainly be the beginning
of what will turn out to be a constitutional crisis because Cheney has declared he will not respond to subpoenas from Congress based on executive privilege.

If nothing else, the Libby trial will be a net-negative for this administration and perhaps put the country into an impeachment mood as concomitant congressional investigations get into full swing.

We can always hope that is the case.

16. It better happen soon. The decider is a lame duck par excellence
after SOFTUS January 2008, a scant year away.

8. Scooter may go to Club Fed for a bit
and then he'll be quietly pardoned.

That is the most we can hope for in this exercise in stonewalling, sacrificing the least useful, and then whitewashing the rest.

9. What I hope comes out of the trial
is the definitive final word that even dittomonkeys and bush loving patriotic "conservatives" can understand that Ms Plame was indeed an undercover CIA operative. Her outing was an act of treason if the patriots care to know.

12. The $ odds ...
right now are only 40% that he will be convicted on any of the charges. This has gone up over the past few months from around 20%.
