Just watched Sen Leahy tear AT Gonzales a new ass hole!
Over the topic of extraordinary rendition. Specifically the rendition of a Canadian citizen to the Middle East. Gonzales began with a lame "we were within the law" sort of denial and Leahy damn near exploded. Raised voice, flushed face and some very harsh words. Gonzales backed down and said the Senator would feel better if he understood bla bla bla and the AG's office would provide information. Gonzales didn't' even finish his sentence when Leahy shouted WHEN! Gonzales hemed a bit and then said next week. Leahy said ok, I'll meet you half way, but if I don't have it next week I guarantee there'll be more hearings next week.

It was a thing of beauty . . .

1. I think Cspan is airing the
hearing this afternoon at 4 ET. It's well worth watching.

2. A thing of beauty indeed...
The Meher Arar affair has been a huge national emabrrassment and scandal here in Canada (despite the current government's attempts to avoid it). Arar was Time Canada's man of the year in 2005, and the head of the RCMP was forced to resign over the whole affair--mostly for trying to push a line of BS about his own involvement in it and the subsequent coverup.

It was a disgrace--and I'm so grateful to Leahy for taking Gonzo to the woodshed for it. :toast:

4. That's the case! Rubbed Gonzales' nose in the international
embarrassment and the wedge between the US and our closest ally.

8. Wasn't that glorious?

His voice boomed all over my office. Had to explain the reference to my officemate. She kept asking, "Why wouldn't they return him to Canada? Wouldn't that be the logical thing to do?"

On edit: Did you catch Leahy scolding him about "when will I get the report?" like a teacher with a kid whose dog ate the homework?
