How do you think Edwards did on Meet The Press |
|
he was honest about he would have to raise taxes to fund a universal health care system. and was honest when he said his vote on the war was wrong.

1. His responses about raising taxes are politically suicidal. |

4. Edwards could have done a better job with that question. |
|
It was clear what he meant. But the GOP will twist and turn to say he's going to raise taxes on middle class Americans even though thats NOT what Edwards said at all.

20. Only among people making more than $200,000 |
|
Edwards wants to fund universal health care by raising taxes on individuals making more than $200,000.
I think that's fair - anyone making over $200,000 has benefitted from this country's largesse including tax deductions for home office, business expenses etc.
Those are the people who ought to be making a sacrifice - to those who have been given much, much is expected.
I think he and the Democrats can frame this so that those folks look like greedy bastards preventing kids from getting health care, pregnant women from getting prenatal care - here's a chance to appeal to the more rational elements of the pro-life constitutiency - and to religious Catholics who oppose abortion.

3. I didn't catch it until a bit into second half hour |
|
But from what I did see, Edwards did very well. I think all of our candidates will do well and make us all look good.
I was especially pleased to see Edwards pass up the opportunities Timmy kept trying to give him to bash others such as Kerry.

12. Very impressive. Timmy threw everything but the kitchen sink, and Edwards handled it. |
|
He was honest, courageous, engaging, humorous, and never wilted a whit under Timmy's RELENTLESS interrogation. I don't ever remember seeing a guest on for a full half hour without a COMMERCIAL break.
I thought Edwards was absolutely amazing.

Remember that this is a guy who made a living of taking on big business. And winning.
I've not seen him back down from a fight before, and it looks like this is no different. It's going to be a hell of a primary season, I tell ya...
I'm with you on the half-hour thing. It's a definite hot seat, and they didn't even touch on domestic policy until 40 minutes into the interview. Timmy certainly threw him some heat.

7. Yeah, taxes will have to be raised; but the taxes should be lower |
|
than the premiums which now go mostly to line the pockets of crooked insurance companies.
Americans have been played the fool on this issue long enough.

It may be political suicide but its honest - he didn't bat an eye about not taxing peoples salarys but taxing divideds and rolling back Bush's tax cuts for those making more than 200,000.

18. I literally cheered when he mentioned that |
|
he thinks the brokerage houses should be reporting capital gains, because of all the tax loss there.
My wife is a born-and-raised Southerner. She really liked his response to gay marriage, and can relate to it...he makes no bones about his history and upbringing as a Southern Baptist, and is fully aware that it shapes who he is. But he also realizes that it's not his place to enforce his personal beliefs on everyone.

I was impressed with him. The vote for the IWR is bothersome. I remember how adamant I was against it, and so deeply disappointed in those who voted for it. And, then, did nothing to stop this mess for years but instead stuck their fingers in the wind before making a stand for fear of political backlash. No one was looking out for our troops. I do not know if I can vote for anyone who did not shout from the rooftops.

|
On marriage rights for LGBTs he is as close to my own position as he can get. He may not come into the bedroom, but he certainly is in the living room, while the GOP won't even set foot in the same city block.
BTW, I support Kucinich and Obama.
