Talk Radio - Why do Progressives
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 07:22 PM by jcv1
Tend to talk about the BIG PICTURE ('08 candidates, Iraq, Congress, etc.) and the Right Wingers continue to bring in the ratings numbers because they hammer personal, local issues concerning morals, religious beliefs, public education, alleged invasions of personal property, etc.? I try not to listen to right wing radio but got a taste of it again today where some woman was complaining about her child's teacher talking about global warming, polar bears dying, etc. and how that is just a radical left wing idea being forced down her child's throat. Another talked about Dems wanting to reach into his pockets with more taxes to cover all "those lazy people on welfare and their medical expenses", so on and so on. I think the battle for '08 is still in the trenches and Progressive radio hosts have to focus more on what people experience every day to get the truth out about RW lies rather than what happens in Wash. DC where most people have already made up their minds is the same ol' same ol' corruption and don't pay that much attention. On the right track or no?

1. All the right wingers can talk about now is the small things.
And thats because Bush and the Republicans have F'd things up so bad it would be hard to start a discussion on big issues. So thats why they'll hammer welfare recipients and "left wing" teachers ramming global warming and evolution down our children's throats.

2. I don't know if Progressives are too broad
IMHO, attacking someone is simply much better radio than trying to find middle ground. I think since people on the left prefer rational dialogue vs subtle hate, RW radio draw the numbers.
Rush has been on a terror the last few weeks (halfricans? wft?), and he has no fear of being fired. And when leftwingers use the same lowball tactics, Rush of all people will play the soundbite and call them out.

5. Actually Thom Hartmann is beating Limpballs in Seattle
Edited on Tue Feb-06-07 07:50 PM by MikeNearMcChord
and they share the same time slot(though I don't doubt Big Ed is killing Insannity in their respective time slots in Seattle). One thing though the poster does have a point, it would be nice to see local progressives have a show, because politics is local and there are some local issues that need debate and opening than letting the RW noise machine control it. Gotta fight the RW house to house and street to street

7. And Randi Rhodes beats O'Lielly
in multiple markets, especially in key demographic groups. Of course, reality doesn't matter to the MSM.

4. All true...
But if the Lefties want to stay on the air, there's only so much "Bush sucks" talk that an average person can take (though I could listen to variations of it 24/7 I suppose...) The righties make their money by attacking every day and somehow the Progressives will have to answer to be viable for the next 2 years, at least....

8. jvc1... If you have a beef .. why tell us, and not them?

Big Ed chats live with his listeners on a routine basis.. and if you don't catch him live, go to his message board (he participates there as well:

http://edschultz.invisionzone.com/

Thom Hartmann also has a message board >> http://thomhartmann.org/groupee although I'm not sure if he chats back & forth? I haven't been there for a while.

Randi Rhodes also has a message board: http://forums.therandirhodesshow.com/index.php

And of course, Stephanie Miller is incredible on the phone.

Hell... every single one of them blows the rightwing, batshit CRAZIES away!

BTW.. if you're going by stats such as Arbitron, it's no wonder you think the righties are doing so well...

9. I do wonder though, if local sports talk is taking away
a lot of the RWers? It is pretty hard to talk about how great the Shrub and his policies or worship the temple of the GOP when most can see through that BS.

10. Put on a good show
If a show is entertaining and provides the kind of information people want, they will listen. You can't force people to listen to shows even if it would be good for them.

11. Right Wing Radio
Look everybody,

It is this simple, Limbaugh and the gang have their crowd. The best thing that we can do develop our crowd and the radio stars to broadcast to them, to US.

BE STRONG.

LOVE YOU ALL
