MP3: Big Eddie proves he's a closet Repug
I edited down to the main AAR dissing parts of Ed Schultz's first hour yesterday to about 4 minutes and added a cheesy version of "Baby Elephant Walk" by Henry Mancini. I may do an South Park-style animation of this at some point...or not...

Listen to Ed be a real asswipe.... enjoy!

Eddie's An Asshole

1. I heard his show the other day, and the reason he is so upset at AAR
is that he heard that some of the AAR hosts were trying to get him kicked off of one of the satellite providers. I would be pretty upset too! I don't think he should blame the entire company, but I think it's self-defeating for progressive hosts to try to get other progressive hosts kicked off the air when there are still so many hardcore conservatives all over the place! Progressive hosts should be supporting eachother, not trying to dismantle eachother. I do think Ed went a little over the top, but I understand why he was upset.

6. I think he said he had heard about it through an e-mail he received.
One of my biggest pet peeves is the "circular firing squad" that progressives sometimes end up in. I listen to the Ed Schultz show almost every day during my lunch break, and he's no conservative..not even close. He was a conservative once, but it's pretty obvious that those days are long gone. He's way more liberal than he gets credit for. Just because he has a similar voice to Rush Limbaugh doesn't mean that he is Rush Limbaugh! I think we should embrace all of the progressive hosts that are out there and discourage them from cannibalizing eachother.

8. Man, I am SOOOOOO glad you are here !!! And I hope EVERY Eddie basher reads this!!

NO ---- he is NOT a conservative!

And yes --- he has the BEST ratings than anyone else in progressive radio as far as "Talk Radio" goes.

He pulls in all the big names to interview --- In one day last week, he had Maxine Waters, Hillary Clinton, Russ Feingold, and John Kerry.

Sam Seder does not like the fact that Eddie's coming on XM and he's sent out the forces to do everything in their power to try and keep him off.

I think that's despicable.

Eddie ROCKS ~~~

Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 12:02 AM by larissa

Finally!!!!

And you are 100% correct... Sam Seder does not want Eddie on XM because Ed's ratings are sky-high and he's COMPETITION.

Sam sent out his listeners to diss and destroy the redhead from Fargo...

7. I was really disappointed when I heard Seder did that
We need all the progressive hosts we can get, and "Big Ed" attracts a demographic that some of the other progressives don't!

22. He's a former Republican
He admits to at one time being a right wing talk host, but his politics have changed since then. His transition began when his wife took him to a homeless shelter and he talked to some homeless Veterans.

13. No one was trying to get him kicked off sat. XM is putting Ed on the AAR channel instead of the AAR
program that will run in that timeslot (Thom Hartmann). XM has an exclusive sat contract with AAR (which is why AAR left Sirius: XM insisted on exclusivity) and set up channel 167 for AAR programming. Apparently Sam Seder suggested if people weren't happy about the loss of AAR programming on XM's AAR channel they could contact XM about it. Not an entirely unreasonable suggestion. People frequently write XM/Sirius to ask that programs be carried. That hardly amounts to advocating Schultz be kicked off XM altogether as far as I can see. How many channels does XM have?

I have no idea if Hartmann's being on Sirius may be why XM doesn't plan to play his AAR network program, but wonder if that's a factor.

But Shultz went ballistic all over AAR, about Franken, Seder etc., AAR listeners and even his own callers when they demurred from full agreement. He said IIRC people should contact XM to kick AAR off altogether.

All in all though that was the most entertaining hour I'd heard from Ed. But that's just me. ;)

Undoubtedly Ed's benefitted from the existence of AAR, whether he admits it or not. Ed appears to me to have some serious ego management issues though. I remember reading Larry Johnson's blog and saw a post on Ed Shultz. Apparently Ed froze out Larry Johnson from his show because in his blog Larry praised Keith Olbermann. http://noquarter.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/01/from_big_ed_to_.html#more

19. He is becoming part of what he hates!!!
He is becoming part of AAR, and he hates it. He is taking Franken's spot on AARXM...and yes I called XM about it. A lot of us did.

He is not a nice person, and he sounds more Republican than Democratic.

24. Ed Really Went Over The Top
And I found it quite embarrassing. Still, I do like listening to Ed and he is bringing in people we need to support us. I really hate this bickering between Dems and wish we could just all get along. How the heck do we expect the country to get along when even those of us proclaiming to be progressives can't. It is one thing to disagree and quite another to call others names. Ed went too far the other day. His juvenile use of the word "sucks" and egotism were very unsettling. And AAR hosts should not have attacked him either.

We only have one progressive talk station here to listen to and I don't appreciate the hosts down talking the other hosts that I have come to enjoy. I want a truce by both sides and an apology to their listeners for subjecting us to it.

11. I agree! Zulchers, I love you... but this is the 3rd "I hate Big Eddie" thread in 2 days...

Seriously, you're not going to stop those of us who enjoy him (and like I keep telling you.. go to his website, you'll see a LOT of DU'ers there)..

Sam Seder is bashing Eddie because he doesn't want him entering his territory...

Have you seen the petition he's got going to try and keep Ed off XM radio?

Big Eddie's audience keeps GROWING and GROWING because he's doing a damn fine job!

I think we should listen to Sam Seder if we want... listen to Big Eddie if we want.... listen to ANYONE else if we want..

...But I don't think we should keep trashing each other.

23. He's my only progressive voice here in SE Wisconsin
I'm not all that anxious to turn him off only to be faced with nonstop REAL Republicans if I want any talk radio in my car.

He's no Republican. But he's also not all that far to the left, and will make comments about those who are farther to the left than he. I think of him as more of a centrist, which is why I think many here don't like him.

But I would reckon he would appeal to those who are like he once was, a questioning Republican who's thisclose to jumping that ship, or to other moderate folks. He has a place.

They all have their annoying bits at times. Eddie gets on my nerves on occasion when he gets silly and makes the occasional stupid comment. Randi won't let her callers talk half the time. Malloy has said some things that really bugged me. But they all have their places, and they should learn to work and play better together.

for very long.

It seems he can't go 15 minutes without sounding like he's just in it for the money.

There are some things I agree with him on -- in the short term -- but he's totally drunk the capitalist kool-aid and revels in his 'successes' as a big time capitalist media talent. In that he entirely resembles rush limpballs -- except since he's like Avis, Eddie tries harder to out limpball, limpballs.

I gotta admit he WAS somewhat subdued with my congressperson Barbara Lee today (bless her to pieces -- about the BEST there is!). Although I immediately clicked off after Lee was finished so I wouldn't have to hear him dissemble about or disagree with or belittle what she said... (Did he?)

I know you (like Zulch) despise Big Eddie.. although according to one of your older threads, you quit listening to him a long ass time ago. (Unless you went back??)

C'mon Florida... Show me one time when Eddie has praised Bill O'Reilly. ONE.

He disses him almost as much as Olbermann does!!!

18. "no wonder O'Reilly makes fun of them (AAR)" defends conservative radio.
That was an ugly rant in which he made it clear he did NOT consider himself part of "liberal" radio...he referred to it in third party format...like he is not part of of our side.

He is angry at one particular company, not all progressive talkers.

17. He's got a real potty mouth, and is mean to his staff.
I heard him with the mike still on when there were problems once on-air. He went into a tirade the likes of which I've never heard, tearing whoever he was working with a new asshole. Clearly he didn't know he was still being heard, and it gave me more than a little insight into his persona.

He may be progressive, but I do believe he is quite the jerk.

29. Big Eddie's words speak for themselves...
He's the one trashing liberal talk radio.

To abjectly deny the actual words he is saying as some DU antic is silly at best. Ed was trashing AAR and I was listening to it on an AAR radio station. What does that say about how smart he is about radio? Should I turn off the radio station that he is trashing because he thinks that "all Air America programs suck..."

The guy is a dipshit. Period. We can do a hell of lot better than him.

30. Thank you for that. If big Eddie wants me to choose, he looses.
The station i listen to has mostly AAR plus others like bigger than britches Eddie. I believe if they didn't have AAR to fill up the time, they would be country western station and bigger than britches Eddie would be elsewhere.

Air America saved my life. When Bush happened I was desperate for progressive company and glad to find AAR. I would rather listen to most on AAR than Eddie. I even like the Young Turks.

I am an XM subscriber and will contact them. Fine if they include bigger than britches Eddie, but don't take off anyone from AAR.
