Chuck Todd named NBC News Political Director
Edited on Thu Feb-15-07 10:35 AM by Rose Siding
NEW YORK -- February 14, 2007 -- Chuck Todd has been named NBC News Political Director, effective March 12, 2007. Todd will also serve as NBC News' on-air political analyst for "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams," "Today," "Meet the Press with Tim Russert" and MSNBC, including "Hardball with Chris Matthews." The announcement was made today by NBC News President Steve Capus and John Fox Sullivan, CEO and Publisher of National Journal Group, NBC's on-air and online partner for political coverage and analysis.
...
In addition to his on-air analysis, Todd will be responsible for all aspects of NBC News' political coverage, including maintaining contact with the campaigns and serving as the point person for political news and information. Todd will work closely in this capacity with Phil Alongi, NBC's executive producer for Specials and Political programming, Naomi Karam, Political desk senior editor and Tammy Haddad, vice president Washington, for MSNBC. Todd will also edit "First Read," NBC's must-read guide to political news and trends in and around Washington, D.C. (www.firstread.msnbc.com), and write weekly columns of analysis for MSNBC.com. He will be based in NBC News' Bureau in Washington, D.C.

"Chuck comes to NBC News with a great deal of political experience and will be a terrific addition to the NBC team," said Washington D.C. Bureau chief, Tim Russert. "At the same time, we want to acknowledge and thank outgoing political director Elizabeth Wilner for her outstanding contributions and valued expertise over the years."

Here's some noted Todd coverage from Media Matters -nothing too egregious (in comparison to other political reporters) It's mostly for echoing existing false media memes-

2. I'm okay with this ........
....... he tends to be pretty middle of the road. I've seen him challenge some more egregious statements when he's on teevee paired with some right wing nutterpundit.

I would also note that his wife worked for Jim Webb's campaign and may now be on his staff.

4. To see how Todd will handle 2008 contest, look to how he handled 2004.
From Media Matters:

Hotline editor Chuck Todd misrepresented public trust in Bush

On MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, Chuck Todd, editor-in-chief of National Journal's The Hotline, claimed, without citing any support for the assertion, that the American people "believe their president." In fact, recent polling data suggests otherwise.

Asked by host Chris Matthews whether there is a "Michael Moore factor running in the country right now?" Todd replied, "I don't think so. I think people -- Democrats forget, people, particularly in the middle, believe their government. They believe their president. They may not agree with him, but they believe their president."

However, the above-mentioned Washington Post poll indicates that only 41 percent of the American public believe that Bush is "honest and trustworthy," compared with 47 percent who believe that Kerry is "honest and trustworthy." The new CBS News poll indicates that 39 percent of Americans believe Bush has "more honesty and integrity compared to others in public life" (compared with 38 percent who believe that of Kerry), with 25 percent stating Bush has less honesty and integrity than other public figures (compared with 14 percent who believe that of Kerry). In the Gallup poll referenced above, Bush rated at 43 percent (compared with Kerry's 48 percent) on whether he is "honest and trustworthy." In the Gallup poll that included an additional day of survey data (August 1), which was released on the evening of August 2, Bush also rated below Kerry (44 percent, compared with Kerry's 46 percent).
