Clark would be a powerful, policy-making type VP. A Democratic, non-corrupt, progressive version of Cheney.

7. Yes, I've also been thinking... |
|
Clark-Obama 2008. But, even so, Obama would be the catbird seat for future runs at the White House.
I also like the sound of Gore-Obama. I think that ticket would be highly successful.

|
Edited on Fri Feb-16-07 11:21 PM by GreenTea
go through all the unbelievable shit and money a year before the first primary, when one can do much better coming in sometime before the primaries and be the savior? Makes much more sense in a crowed field to come in when all the bullshit is thrown out and people are tired of the same old shit that's been going on for month after month as it is now...If Clark or Gore see a real opening, they'll be there...And I agree there's plenty of time!

18. That's what Barak was saying about 6 months ago.... |
|
"I'm not running for President", if I recall.
It appears that things can change.
They did for Obama....
and they may change again.
Well same for Wes Clark. And Frankly, we just don't yet know if Clark is or isn't running for. none of us, not even you. period.
What I will say is that Wes Clark's no follower. He's not gonna jump in because of somekind of peer pressure! It's too serious of an endeavor. It really is no game.
Wes Clark will let us know what he's gonna do, when he gets ready to do it.
Maybe the same Press that covers Hillary/Obama/Edwards 24/7 will be kind enough tot grant Wes Clark some of that "Free" publicity they seem to reserve only for the candidates they decide should get it...
Personally this I find the media gifting some and not others grossly undemocratic....and honestly unrepresentative of why some are popular and why some aren't.

It doesn't make one a rockstar, no matter how many times one is called that.
Similarily, I don't consider Michael Jackson as the King of Pop. Period.
But you should go ahead. I've just never been one to be swayed by what others are saying. Guess, I'm just my own person impervious to the pull called conventional wisdom. Sorry!

16. Saying that Barak is more popular now then he ever will be is short changing the man! |
|
Why shouldn't he be more popular on down the way.....??
I mean...the man just got here! I hope you are not saying he has nowhere to go but down. I think there is more to like about Obama than we already know.....personally.
Considering that we are fighting in Afghanistan, Iraq and possible Iran shortly.....it is kind of weird that the guy who gives a great speech becomes Commander in Chief and the Former NATO SACEUR who won our last war and has negotiated peace becomes President of the Senate.
Guess Barak could ask Wes for advise on the war, and Wes could ask Barak for advise on the senate.
But I'm not sure it is Clark who is getting a "favor" by putting him on Barak's Ticket....
Just because Wes Clark doesn't garnet Free publicity (the most valuable commodity for a candidate there is) because the media chose not to give it to him long ago, doesn't make him less qualified for the position than those with media lights aimed at their faces ....It just makes Clark less popular and even unkown to many.
Media Buzz is everything at most stages of the electoral game (and Barak Obama has that in spades)....however, Media Buzz shouldn't be the overiding presidential qualification. It is too easily manufactured and not at all organic. It actually hurts our democracy, because in essence, it is the media that chooses, and offers to us who they have chosen....and for the Dems; this year...it is Clinton, Obama and Edwards.
So yes....that is who the media is choosing to discuss as our possibilities endlessly...which then turns increases name recognition, which turns leads to higher poll numbers; which in turns generates more dollar contributions.
It's not like the people broke the doors of the press down and demanded 24/7 coverage of Clinton/Obama/Edwards....just like people didn't break down the doors wanting 24/7 Anna Nicole coverage. the media just gives us what they want us to have....and many of us, unfortunately, go along with it. I don't blame folks....cause fighting this is much harder than going with it.

31. If "Obama isn't ever going to be as popular as he is now" |
|
Then he ought to drop out now, because he's not yet popular enough to win.
Rasmussen polling shows Obama at 50% favorable, 34% unfavorable. He's certinaly one of the most popular Democratic candidates right now. But if he can only go down from there, he doesn't stand a chance. The swiftboating hasn't even started up yet.

|
I hope that you did not put your priorities in order here:
1. Short names...well I guess that worked for Bush 2. Fits on a "Bumpersticker"...ok...if it fits on a sticker then by god he gets my vote... 3. Good candidates...ok...how? 4. Perfect sense..what...they have short names?
Please tell me that you have more substance than this...

42. actually Kerry was somewhat resistant to picking Edwards |
|
and did so not because the media was saying it, but because Democratic activists all over the country kept telling him to do so. Edwards had built up a lot of goodwill, and activists thought he was the right note for Kerry.
So Kerry's hands were tied. I'm glad he did it, obviously (as an Edwards supporter), but he could not pull the trigger for the longest time.
Of course, I don't believe Edwards was used well in the campaign, but that is not Kerry's fault, I don't believe. I think it's a broader campaign decision, how the running mate is scheduled, and they blew it, keeping him (Edwards) out of the south. Writing off the south (especially with a VP with that accent and background) was a bad call. Park Edwards in one flippable state for the whole time, and Kerry would have been President.
This is all, of course, just my opinion.
Hopefully the next ticket will use a 50 state strategy.

21. Wow, another presidential candidate whose supporters think they need the Clark credibility boost. |
|
In truth, I find it more flattering than insulting, given the number of supporters of different candidates who want to see Wes Clark fill in the resume shortcomings of their preferred candidates. But it's all good. Frankly, I think Clark would be better put to service as Secretary of State (not Defense, State, please note) than VP. But in the heat of a campaign, it's best not to be too standoffish. If Obama gets the nom (and he is the least bought and the most appealing of the big three for me) Clark should be honored to be asked.
But the reality is that between now and the convention the landscape is going to do a LOT of tectonic wobbling. There's really no plausible VP suggestion for any possible president nominee. We still don't know what balancing we'll have to do 18 months from now.

A ticket that contained Obama and either Clark or Gore would work for me, even if Obama was the VP candidate. The more I read about Clark, the more I like him. I respect Gore, also. I will back Obama to the end, but the aforementioned two could unite the party well, also.

|
Any combination of two, in either order, would be a great ticket. In my view, everyone else is second tier.
My preference is for Clark for pres.
Since Clark and Gore have not announced they would run, and quite possibly won't....I would speculate that IF they were to rule out a run, many of their supporters would gravitate to Obama. Can't see Hillary getting the majority of them.
