4. Yet, when I suggested that just the other day...
...the message got yanked from the thread!

Maybe it was the mention of the White House flagpole...

9. This one will probably also. The admins have to be careful. DU or any other site can get in troubl
trouble if any physical harm if mentioned. So, it wasn't just you. It is anyone who inadvertently posts something that could be potentially troublesome to the whole forum.

5. Do you suppose the secret service is gonna pay him a visit?
I don't trust him though - his bigger point is the latest RW talking point
to try to weasel out of the blame.... that the situation in Iraq is "everyone's fault"

I mean, come on.. Imus is a Rick Santorum fan.... say no more.

6. But then he went on to blame various Democrats for all the problems. I definitely have a love/hate
relationship with Imus (as does probably half of America.)

17. He needs to be reminded
that since the war started, the Republicans have been in control of both houses. The Democrats had no supoena power for investigations and the Republicans had the numbers to defeat anything - and I know they defeated a lot of pro-vet stuff.

10. Anger in this country is growing, I think
Anger from the people who are finally waking up and smelling the mess Bush has made, and shrill, fearful anger from those who still support Bush.

11. Don't give Imus too much credit. He made fun of those who took to the streets
in 2003 to protest the war....even though we were scattered about the country......and not thousands.....we knew where this war was heading.

In the meantime, back to what Imus said this morning, he included Bill Clinton in his rant.

Why don't we answer the question that is bound to come up...before it is asked.

Question?

How many wounded in the armed service were housed in Walter Reed building 18 during the Clinton administration?

How do we find that out?

12. But he is also holding Democratic Senators
responsible (Kerry and Clinton were mentioned most often) for the VA problem. In reality, ALL the Democrats have good records on voting more money for the VA. His idol, John McCain, and other Republicans have repeatedly voted down increases.

But he and Barnicle (Boston Herald) are actually blaming the Democrats. In Kerry's case, I know he told Warner on the floor of the Senate in June 2006 that the VA had a $60 million shortfall and that it had to be fixed. Kerry also wrote legislation for $100 million for PTSD and was able to get only $18 million passed. Kerry has fought this since 1971 when he described bad conditions at VA hospitals.

13. I know. I agree. But what about my question? How many were using building 18 during Clinton's term?

16. I think your question was a good one - but I have no idea

how we can get an answer. It is also possible that the condition of the building was different in 2000 - a poorly maintained building would likely deteriorate over 7 years.

I addressed the last 6 years, because with the war, the situation did become worse. The Democrats did not control either house of Congress. Following the Senate on CSPAN, it was clear the Democrats had to shame the Republicans into doing anything. (I remember Kerry quietly begging the Republicans to include even the relatively cheap provision of allowing families of people KIA to stay in military housing for a year (letting them get their lives in order) - Kerry read email from families on this issue on the Senate floor.)

The answer to the right is that the Democrats have proposed and written legislation that has been rejected to get more money to the VA. (I listed some of Kerry's - because I knew it. He spoke of the vets not getting what they need many times in 2004 and since and broke up the Veteran's legislation he proposed in 2004 into small pieces to get them included. He is not the main person on this issue and shouldn't be. He is NOT on the Armed Services Committee) I know Patty Murray fought for the VA health care last year. I'm sure other Senators on that committee wrote legislation too.

There were also the various lists that showed the worst Senators for vets were all Republicans. The Senate is a LEGISLATIVE body and they do have oversight responsibilitiy - but the Democrats did not have control of either house - so they had NO ability to have hearings with supoena power. Until a month ago - for the entire time since the war started the Republicans controlled the Presidency and both houses of Congress. They are responsible.

that GE MSNBC IMUS and his repeat guests are not friendly to the citizens of this country? They are all soldiers in the batallions forwarding on the right wing war front against the rest of the people in this country - for their bosses and partners. Imus only goes off like this when his wife gets upset about some people or child issue. He really lets people manuever him - he is a tragedy - or call him a tragic bigot who knows all the isms.

19. My concern is that this is an attempt to
repeat the "Democrats were no better" that the media has played on other Bush problems. The Democrats are NOT equally complicit on this or on the war itself. Yet every Democratic Senator who has been on talk shows has been asked about the IWR vote, if he/she voted for it and recently they have been asked why they are not pushing a binding bill to get out.

I have heard way too many talking heads whine that the Democrats won in November on the basis of getting out of Iraq and they haven't done it. Ignoring that in the Senate they need 60 votes for cloture. (Note they are NOT blaming the Republicans for that - though the Democrats refused to require the Republicans to get 60 votes for Alito.)

The media does not play it fair. I used Kerry's record, because I know it and because he was the last candidate and because he spoke of similar VA poblems in 1971 that shocked him enough that that issue was raised as much as ending the was in his Senate testimony. The problem is whether people in general ever heard anything Kerry said on veterans and whether they take that as the Democratic position.
