Dems should prepare to push back against a Libby acquittal |
|
Republicans (you can bet) are already prepared for a blitz of crowing about INNOCENCE if Libby is acquitted or not convicted. The public relations playbook is already written, and they will try to sweep things up, connected and not connected, as a whitewash.
Dems should ALREADY be prepared to push back against such a blitz. The talking points should already be distributed. The Congressional investigations should already be planned.
Did Dems have enough strategic impetus to be prepared? I hope so.

1. I Wouldn't Count on an Acquittal |

The defense sounds like a clown, an over-playing cynical actor. The jury lives in DC., they Know it's all lying and back-stabbing. I'm pulling for a conviction (even if Bush does the ultimate folly and pardons Libby).

3. I'm not counting on it. |

I'm just suggesting that Dems should be as well prepared for any eventuality as Republican strategists usually are.

2. I'm not sure the Repukes want to attach themselves to Libby |

Even if he's not convicted for some crazy reason.
Libby has the taint.

5. I am in agreement here |

Regardless of conviction or acquittal, I do think that effort should be made to prepare to confront the republics on whatever propaganda they intend to spread on this issue. Even if Libby is convicted, the trial has exposed that there were quite a number of persons in the administration wholly complicit in the efforts to do damage to the Wilsons and they also ought to be brought to account somehow. Democrats need to call for more prosecutions - IMO.
