Rep. Ron Paul, Libertarian, announces exploratory committee for President
He's our favorite Republican!

Hasn't broken out of the wires yet.

Here's what I got:

"Ron Paul 2008 Presidential Exploratory Committee: Attorneys Alan P. Dye and
Bruce Fein Join Congressman Paul's Presidential Exploratory Committee

WASHINGTON, Feb. 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Attorneys Alan P. Dye and
Bruce Fein of Washington, D.C. have joined Congressman Ron Paul's 2008
Presidential Exploratory Committee. Constitutional attorney Joseph Becker of
Denver, Colorado is the committee's chief legal advisor.
"We are extremely pleased that Messrs. Dye and Fein have joined our
efforts," said Kent Snyder, chairman of the Congressman Paul's exploratory
committee.
Alan P. Dye is a partner with the Washington, D.C. law firm of Webster,
Chamberlain & Bean. He served as general counsel to Pat Buchanan's Republican
presidential committee and has represented numerous other candidates and
committees, such as the National Right to Work Committee. Mr. Dye has worked
in the election law field since 1975.
Bruce Fein is a partner with The Litchfield Group in Washington, D.C. Mr.
Fein appears regularly on national television, cable, and radio programs. He
is a regular guest at the BBC, C-SPAN, CNN, Reuters, MSNBC, and NPR. Mr. Fein
is frequently quoted in The New York Times, The Financial Times, The
Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal and
other major national publications.

2. The enemy of my enemy is my friend perhaps?
We may share very little common ground with Ron Paul but it seems that anyone who opposes the neocons is a good thing.

4. A Very Poor Proverb, Sir
A more accurate form would be "The enemy of my enemy is usually another enemy of mine."

He opposes us as surely as he opposes anything else, and if actually in power, would have us up against a wall in a heart-beat.

7. Splitting The Rightist Vote Is Fine, Ma'am
If the D.N.C. has spare money, it would be wise to bankroll the Libertarians and Constitution parties, as the Republicans subsidize the Greens. Libertarians seem to have handed us Sen. Tester's seat in Montana recently.

But we on the left should keep our eye on the ball, and remain clear about these ultra-right types and their ultimate hostility towards our programs and our hopes.

14. If he runs as an Independent or Libertarian, he could neutralize the Nader factor
Edited on Thu Feb-22-07 02:17 AM by Pushed To The Left
by taking some conservative votes away from the Republican candidate!

15. There is no "Nader factor"!
Nader gets more play in DU than he gets anywhere else. At best, Nader offers a vanity candidacy that will be shunned and ignored by most everyone. I haven't heard any of the progressives I know mention Nader at all. Mention Dennis Kucinich, you will get a lot of feedback. Mention Obama, there is a lot of caution.

5. Wouldn't mind seeing him do an indy-Libertarian run.
Every once in a while Barr takes a position I agree with. So does Buchanan. But I'd vote for my dog before I'd vote for either of them. (At least my dog is a yella-dawg.) Nevertheless, it would be nice to see the Puggies splitting themselves and their votes up into little pieces.

9. He's a bona fide nut. Here in TX, he's a man w/out a country. Radioactive to both sides.
But he votes w/the repukes, esp when the chips are down.

He may be right on the war, but he's wrong on just about everything else.

I swear, he only wins elections on the "weird" factor.

Please be aware he is against funding ALL gov't programs, he's also anti-gay and anti-choice.

Think Lyndon LaRouche and you'll understand the superficial appeal.

10. I hope he runs. Paul cannot win, but he has a dedicated following and he can carry his small but
devoted group of supporters all the way to the convention if he wants.

I think a Paul candidacy high-lights the fact that the Repubs have lost any claim the may once have had to being the party of economic responsibility.

I further think with Paul pulling off the libertarian wing of the Repub party and Rudy McRomney splitting the neocon/corporatist vote, there is room for a truly out-of-the-mainstream nutjob like Tancredo or Brownback to sneak off with the nomination which would set the Repubs back to the days of Goldwater in terms of their unelectability.

12. He's a nutty doctor from Lake Jackson.
He is a libertarian flying under the Repuke radar. Occasionally he has a good idea but he's basically nutty.

He's an OB-GYN in Lake Jackson. He is anti-abortion and used to have an unreal

14 percent mortality rate :wtf:

of the babies that he delivered. I know this b/c I used to be married to someone from Lake Jackson.

That is an incredibly high mortality rate for babies in this country.
