I want a POTUS who isn't salivating at the idea of BEING POTUS.
Clark or Obama in my view.

Clark hasn't declared yet because he is too busy ACTUALLY working for change. Also, it is easy to tell that he doesn't need or want the job that badly, but would take it if we, the people, want him to be. This is a far, far cry from Senator Clinton who seems ambitious to the bone.

Also, I get a similar feeling about Obama. He is still young and I think if he was truly only thinking of the position, he would wait till the next (or next) election. But I think he sees the importance of this election and so is willing to go in early because he thinks he is the right person.

Edwards... Well ambition perhaps..

Just my take.

1. Well, you gotta accept
that being the worlds most powerful guy could be something of a kick. That's why we have to elect somebody who can take it. That would obviously exclude the likes of the current occupant.

2. Who would go through the hell it takes to get elected POTUS, if they
didn't really want the job?

3. It's seeking the title vs. seeking the job. I loved Bill Clinton speaking in painstaking detail
about the processes of the government that could be leveraged for the greater good.

He wanted the job, and appreciated the title.

I'd take that, anytime. MKJ

4. That doesn't exist
The only way you make it alive out of a presidential campaign is if your ambition is bigger than your principles.

Not to say presidential candidates have no principles or that they do not have a true desire to help our nation, but politics are a nasty, nasty thing...

5. There are two classes of people who can get elected, IMO
with the cash requirements these days.

The first is the passionate candidate whose ego is strong enough to go the distance.

And there are the silver spoon candidates, such as Dubya.

I really prefer the former to the latter.

6. Anybody who runs is desperate for it
especially if they've spent their lives getting elected to things.

Ain't no other way, I'm afraid.

I'm watching I, Claudius right now and it's refreshing and heartbreaking to see a good man like Claudius get tossed into power despite not wanting it at all... and becoming a great leader, to everyone's surprise.

7. I agree.....but the bigger question is why do they want it?
Is it for their own personal satisfaction, or are they truly concerned for this country.

Most have some of both going for them. It's just a matter of supporting one who has more motives being generated from the later than the former.

8. That's physically impossible, the Presidency is the highest elected office in the nation
Anybody who gets elected to it is extremely ambitious and is serious about wanting the job.

9. Yes, and who's zooming who?
No doubt Obama salivates with his inner circle enclaves..
Otherwise he'd be subhuman.

Geeze, what other notion can someone come up with that can be considered
the next inexplicable reason to NOT vote for a candidate..

hmmm...no blue eyed candidates because I'm sick of blue eyes?

bwa..hahahaha...ha!

12. Cincinnatus won't be running for President.
To be in the race to win, the candidate has to WANT it.

13. 11 posts, 8 misses. Yes, they WANT it, of course. But WHY, WHY!?
Of COURSE they all must want it in some sense. The question is WHY?

Is it for self-aggrandizement? Or for service to country?

I think there are differeces.

17. Good luck with that.
The only scenario I see where that would even happen is if a sitting president suddenly died and a disinterested VP had to take over.
