Edwards Needles Clinton About Iraq Vote (AP)
Edwards Needles Clinton About Iraq Vote
Ex-Sen. Edwards needles Clinton about 2002 Iraq vote at Nevada forum

CARSON CITY, Nev., Feb. 21, 2007
By BETH FOUHY Associated Press Writer

(AP) Former Sen. John Edwards jabbed gently at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton
on Wednesday in the first all-candidates forum of the 2008 Democratic
presidential campaign, saying her refusal to disavow a 2002 vote on Iraq
was "between her and her conscience."

"It's not for me to judge," said Edwards, who _ like Clinton _ voted in
2002 to authorize the invasion of Iraq, but unlike her, has since apologized
for his vote.

The event format did not permit Clinton to respond to Edwards' swipe, which
stood out on an afternoon in which Democrats launched serial attacks on
President Bush's war policies.

The convergence of so many candidates underscored Nevada's newfound
importance in the 2008 nominating campaign. The state will hold caucuses
on Jan. 19, five days after the lead-off Iowa caucuses and presumably only
a few days before New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation primary.

4. He said he was sorry though.
So he's absolved. By some people anyway.

5. Yep. I don't disqualify candidates because of mistakes.
Edited on Wed Feb-21-07 09:16 PM by Kerry2008
Especially when they give geniune apologies. I wish Bush would apologize. Wouldn't change much, but it would be nice to see him eat humble pie and admit he was wrong.

I personally don't agree with Edwards or Clinton's vote, but I didn't agree with the way Kerry voted and I supported him--and still do!!

I'm more concerned with what each candidate is doing right now to end this war, and not just talking tough. I really like Senator Kerry's plan, who isn't a candidate for President, and I would hope some candidates for President would get behind it. But hey, they are more then welcome to introduce their own plans.

:hi:

EDIT: I will note that my top three candidates-- Gore, Clark, and Obama are against this war and have been since the beginning, but I still don't disqualify because of a mistake.

6. Hillar'ys refusal to admit a mistake will haunt her everywhere
It is not a smart move on her part. Saying I made a mistake on her Iraq war vote demonstrates humility in my opinion.

Dodd, Biden, Edwards have all admitted their vote was a mistake.

7. I agree. I think she should have admitted it was a mistake.
Obviously, I'm sure she's trying to shake off any opportunity to be seen as flip-flopping, but I think she backed herself into a corner. Not necessarily a death blow or anything, but I wish she would have said it was a mistake.

Perhaps this is playing into her strategy

I like Hillary, but on this I just don't understand...

8. I'll never understand why admitting a mistake is supposedly weakness
While being an arrogant, obnoxious ass is somehow strength.

No, Kerry spoke out against the war before it started
just as he said he would in his speech if Bush abandoned his promises. Clinton didn't. Edwards was actually FOR the war itself.

Kerry also said the vote was wrong before Edwards did.
