3. Agreed. We're two years minus three months until the general
election.

2. Dean was way ahead too
in the beginnings of the 2004..I don't put much stock in that poll - they hate him over at Freeperville as well as McCrazy. I think the GOP is going to have a hard time putting forth a candidate that will appeal to their base.

5. His numbers are high now but they'll plunge once his GOP opponents
begin to run ads on his questionable performance as NYC mayor.

A lot of the country knows him only from the fragment of footage just after 9/11. Not very many have heard him try to deliver a speech for half an hour. When they have that opportunity, a coarser, less heroic Rudy will be revealed. He's dull, witless, smiles at the wrong times, and is dragging a lackluster-at-best mayoral record around with him.

With Brownback and other full-fledged kooks in the GOP race, Repulibcan primary voters aren't going to vote for a pro-gay-marriage and pro-choice candidate, IMO.

7. Not to mention his liberal leanings (pro-choice, gay rights) and his
multiple divorces. These won't go over well with his 'base', I'm thinking.

8. Howdy there, babylonsister. Agree. Rudy's going to be bitter soup
for a lot of those nutbags out there in Fundieland.

6. That poll was obviously a "fixed" poll.
I seriously doubt any poll actually occurred. It's propaganda. Even republicans think all their choices are from the "B" List.

11. The Gallup poll had a different response
A Gallup poll taken a few days earlier reported 48% favoring Clinton, 50% favoring Giuliani, and 1% undecided--essentially a tie.

Since Giuliani declared his candidacy while the Quinnipiac poll was being taken, he hadn't yet taken any hard jabs. Meanwhile, McCain surely knows that his party tends to stick with early frontrunners more so than the Democrats, so he is going to have to release his inner rottweilers at some point in the not too distant future. When that happens, it is going to take a few percentage points away from America's Mayor. In short, it is way too soon for polls to be meaningful.

Of course, Fox News has already declared "Voters Most Comfortable with Rudy Giuliani as President."
