The difference between the parties
This weekend illustrates the stark difference between the two parties. Yesterday every Republican running for President was at the Conservative PAC conference where Ann Coulter called John Edwards a faggot. Hateful as her actions were they got laughs at the conference. Today, we have candidates fighting for a place on the Edmund Pettis Bridge, one of the most famous sites of the Civil Rights Movement. On every Civil Rights decision for the last 40 or more years, our party was right and the other party was wrong. We were right about the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Right Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and we are right about ENDA and Hate Crimes.

Our party fights to be on the bridge of progress, their party fights to be with a hateful woman who calls people vile names. Our party fights for the weakest among us, their party picks on them. If this is no difference, then I don't know what a difference is. One party expands the circle of citizenship, the other to shrink it. One party seeks to expand the rights of everyone, the other seeks to contract them.

This weekend speaks volumes. Even Ann Coulter's screeching can't drown it out.

5. well, that's not exactly accurate
"On every Civil Rights decision for the last 40 or more years, our party was right"

*thinks about vietnam, about prison and racism, about sanctions and a half million dead iraqi babies, about marriage rights ...*

nope, there's a whole lot of room for improvement.
