Young progressives organization in NYC apparently doesn't think it's too late for Clark and '08...
Posted by Gordon Suber on CCN this morning:
General Wesley Clark will be in New York City this coming Wednesday, March 14th to speak as part of a continuing "ROAD TO THE WHITE HOUSE" series.

Taj Lounge
48 West 21st Street
7:30 PM
RSVP Required. Space limited to a couple hundred.

I believe the charge for non-members is $7.00.

Hmmmm...the Road to the White House, huh?

Here's the DL21C's mission statement from their website:

Democratic Leadership for the 21st Century is an independent organization of young, progressive New Yorkers. Since 1993, DL21C has been dedicated to increasing the political awareness and participation of a new generation of New Yorkers. DL21C is the premier political group for young people in New York and serves as a model for grassroots organizing nationwide.

Check them out if you're in NY, even if you don't intend to go Wednesday night. They have chapters in Boston, Chicago and LA as well.

1. I am still hoping against hope.
I'll wait it out awhile longer.

The rest of them just started too damn early. They risk burn-out in the mind's eye of Democrats.

11. So I take it you are going?
I live two hours away from NYC but I am considering going. I have never seen General Clark speak. He is one of my heroes and on my shortlist of candidates to possibly support if a miracle does not happen and Cuomo enters the race (I do lean toward Edwards right now, though, but I am considering the Goracle, Obama, and of course Clark)! What is parking like in that area?

12. parking
Oh, good question. I have no idea as I don't have a car and take the subways and buses in the city instead of driving. Let me see if I can find out for you.

I do hope you'll make it....I love Mario too but I'm guessing there's a better chance of Clark jumping in than Mario right now....

But your mention of Mario reminded me of this Mario quote, which thrilled me, as a Mario person myself:
"Wes Clark is a man of whom you can ask a question, and he will look you directly in the eye, and give you the most truthful and complete answer you can imagine. You will know the absolute truth of the statement as well as the thought process behind the answer. You will have no doubt as to the intellect of the speaker and meaning of the answer to this question....So you can see, as a politician, he has a lot to learn."

14. Thanks for the welcome and info!
I agree. Clark likely will run. The odds of Mario running are next to nil--unless a grassroots movement can generate a reasonable level of support for him. It seems, though, that people are satisfied with the field that we have so the odds of an outsider being drafted are not as good as they would have been in an election such as 1988 or 1992. The only way to find out if there is any support for him, though, is by testing the waters on the netroots. :)

That is a great quote and very true! I think if Clark could get the nomination the (few) weaknesses he has would turn into strengths in the general election.

If I wind up going I will let you know!

15. Cool....
I hope you will email Gordon about the parking situation. He should be able to help you. I hate to even think of driving in the city.

5. And if I may be so bold to add to Carol's post.
If this interests you than you may also want to check out this interview Clark gave this week to blogger Reg NYC

8. Clark needs more exposure like that...something on economics not
just military affairs. We need to talk up his other attributes so people get a more rounded knowledge of his many abilities. Gee, I never knew he was so musical. I knew he and Gert contributed and were active in the Arts...but I had no idea he played/dabbled in so many musical instruments.

16. Must run in the family
On both sides. The violin was his father's, so I would assume his father played. They weren't wealthy enough to have one around the house just for decoration. And he also has a cousin from Arkansas (mother's side) who's a professional musician. I can't remember her name, but I remember seeing her website back during Clark's 2004 campaign. And I seem to recall her saying something about his singing in the church choir back when they were kids.

7. The longer the General waits, the more time the other candidates have to prop feet firmly
into collective mouths. Meanwhile he continues to lecture, tour and write, assuming the mantle of statesman while the others appear as "politicians."

9. lol, nicely said.
I forgot who Tweety had on the other night, but he said something about a surprise in store for this group of candidates when others emerge to run against them.

I have no doubt that if there's a chance Clark's running, he's already got plans in the works.

10. Clark's schedule
He'll be back to the Gulf Region the following weekend. You gotta wonder how he does it. Lest we forget, Clark has to earn a living too.

Well NY, have a great time at the Taj. Road + WHouse sounds good.

17. Too late?
Maybe I just wasn't paying attention, but I don't remember constant discussion of who is a viable candidate ever starting this early. Iowa and New Hampshire are something like 10 months away, an eternity in the political world. Anything can happen. Remember back about 7 months ago when Senator Macaca was not only a shoe-in for re-election, but considered one of the Repug front runners for 2008? And to back a little further, anybody remember Sen. Gary Hart, considered one of the Dem front runners in 1988? At this point, I don't think it's too late for almost anyone.
