Everyone needs to get to this thread and start raising hell with ALL our lawmakers and media.

Halliburton is making a scramble out of the US to a new headquarters in Dubai. That means ALL the paperwork and documents will go out of the country unless we stop them somehow NOW.

9. Not surprised at all. I remember Enron divisions being quickly 'bought' by UBS and
all the papers being moved out of Houston before the prosecutors could get them.

10. How large an army does Dubai have?
I suspect that if overrunning Iraq was a 3 week walk in the park, taking over Dubai would be like a day at the beach. Hey, I'm not advocating such a thing but a recent neocon administration set some precedents along these lines.

11. I dunno...But remember, Bush had all our Port Security privatized with Dubai
until, I believe Leahy and a few other Senators put a STOP to the completion of the contact deal and backed Bush down.
It's always a BAD sign when the owners of a store start giving the store away for FREE. Means they're leaving town for greener pastures.

in the truest sense of the word. They took over the USA using skulduggery and the Supreme Court then proceeded to steal everything and now they pulling stumps and running to where they will no longer be encumbered by the laws of the USA. A yardarm could become usefull later. Arrrg

Dubai is in charge of our ports and our bank account has been taken also. They have set it up and now everything is falling into place. The selling of America a little at a time. Say Bye Bye.

18. I'm not an economist, but I'm fairly sure that would be a bad idea.

I'm not sure exactly what the repurcussions would be, but two obvious ones would be that other countries would probably retaliate in kind, damaging US companies, and that the US would probably have to pay considerably more for that kind of work than it currently does if there was less competition.

I also question the notion that a US-based company is inherently more trustworthy than one from any other country.

20. I think the assumption that just because it exists it isn't harmful is naive.
There are a few cases where "buy local" legislation makes sense for environmental reasons, to prevent the harm done by transporting things long distances, but it's usually a very bad idea.

It's a fine example of the prisoner's dilemma - if you have buy local legislation, I'm better off if I do than if I don't. If you don't, I'm still better off if I do than if I don't. Ditto for you. But if we both do, we're both worse off than if we both didn't.

hire an army of CPAs and tell them they get 10% of any fraud they discover in any KKR or Haliburton contract in Iraq.

23. Hiring more tax inspectors almost always pays for itself several times over.
Edited on Mon Mar-12-07 09:21 AM by Donald Ian Rankin
The amount of extra revenue you generate by hiring more people to crack down on tax evasion is usually far more than the cost of hirng them; I suspect the same would be true of fraud.

Unfortunately, America's hostility to taxation and the influence of people with a vested influence in tax evasion makes it a very hard decision to make stick. It would undoubtedly be a good one, though.

SEC Withdrawing Charge Against Former Halliburton CFO

Snip...

Still pending was the charge that Morris was negligent for allowing the financial statements to be issued without the full accounting disclosure.

The Houston-based conglomerate settled similar SEC claims filed against it in August 2004 without admitting guilt. But SEC officials said Halliburton failed to fully cooperate in the investigation and fined the company $7.5 million.

The change in accounting procedures occurred in 1998, during Vice President Dick Cheney's 1995-2000 tenure as Halliburton's chief executive. Cheney has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

In a separate matter, Halliburton said last fall it will agree to the SEC's request for more time to investigate possible bribery and corruption in connection with the company's natural gas operations in Nigeria. The so-called tolling agreement between Halliburton and the agency delayed when the legal clock started running, or tolling, on the case under the statute of limitations -- generally five years for such investigations.

The accord also gave Halliburton more time to make its case to the SEC against possible civil charges under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act or to work out a settlement with the agency. The act makes it unlawful to bribe foreign government officials or company executives to obtain or retain business.

Several months ago, Cheney's driveway hosted a shredding truck for 4 days in front of his house.

28. A few points:
That CEO will always need a secretary or clerk, and, trust me, some paper pushers are quietly stashing aside documents, whether it be for blackmail for personal gain, or, out of a sense of duty. I know, because, I did!

*former billing clerk on an Iraq project

Also, the oil industry won't take this quietly, sure, they are profit driven and usually slimy, but, one thing rank-and-file Houstonians really hate is the idea of supporting anyone based in the Middle East. Trust me on this one. PO's will quietly be shifted from Halliburton to say, Cameron, as more and more businesses unofficially blackball these guys for this move...
