Giuliani speaks in favor of Gingrich
BY MARTIN GRIFFITH, Associated Press

RENO, Nev. - Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani defended Newt Gingrich, who has admitted having an extramarital affair as he pursued President Clinton's impeachment after the Monica Lewinsky affair.

Giuliani, speaking to reporters during a campaign stop late Saturday afternoon in Reno, said the episode shows no one is perfect and the former House speaker can learn from it.

"I think the American people realize, and I'm speaking for myself now, we've made a lot of mistakes, and hopefully we've done some good things in our lives and it's probably always been that way," he said.

"The American people have to judge who is the most effective leader. They will not find a perfect person, and that's probably good because we all have imperfections. Sometimes when you go through things like that in your life, you can become a better person," he said.

2. let us be honest here..........
Republican presidential candidates are allowed to make mistakes, and we accept their contriteness at face value. Democratic presidential candidates however are not allowed to make these mistakes. Their contriteness is to be looked at cynically, and their moral shortcomings are to be a central theme in any campaign opposing them.

6. So let's beat the Repubs at their own game - get a virtually perfect candidate,
who is in one solid marriage and viola - no problem.

7. Add in McCain and you've got 8
Bob Dole had two. He's the first Repug candidate that comes to mind with multiple marriages.

5. When Giuliani and the rest of them forgive Clinton,
then I can believe their sincerity about Newt's affair.

They talk of all these morals and then prop up people who violate them, while saying "Nobody's perfect" to justify it?

Okay, so let's expect Election 2008 to be clean then. One ounce of mud being slung and they'll rpove themselves two-face hypocrites. Fair enough, it's just politics.

Maybe that's why America in general doesn't give a shit about the politicians anymore -- have these dudes checked overall approval ratings? They're hardly anything to show mommy about.

As the old adage goes, it makes a difference whose dog's tail gets caught in the door, doesn't it?

12. By the time this Republican campaign is over
marital infidelity will have become some sort of sacrament. They'll probably be attacking our candidate for having been faithful. :eyes:
