Democrats blamed for ’under-funded’ Walter Reed Hospital
Jim Brown

A conservative U.S. Senator blames the problems plaguing the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., in large part on liberals in Congress who consistently vote to cut America’s national defense budget.

Last month, a Washington Post investigation exposed the existence of moldy and rodent-infested rooms in the Army’s top medical center. That report prompted the firing of the commander of Walter Reed, the resignation of Army Secretary Francis Harvey, and congressional hearings. The Army has also created a new post to help address problems at the military medical facility.

Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe says the least understood thing about this scandal is that Walter Reed is not a veterans’ issue since it is an Army hospital. "It’s one that is not funded by veterans’ funds," he points out ; "and the very individuals, the liberals, the Democrats who are complaining right now about the problems that took place at Walter Reed — many of those problems are due to the fact that they’ve been so grossly under-funded — and these are the very individuals that vote against the defense budget enhancement every time."

Inhofe says many people are failing to understand Walter Reed is not a veterans’ issue because it is a military hospital that requires military funding. "So I think we need to make people aware that this is a national defense problem as much as it is a medical care problem," the senator says.

Former Senator Bob Dole and University of Miami President Donna Shalala have been appointed to lead a review of the nation’s military and veterans’ hospitals.

2. So it's the Democrats who voted against previous defense budgets ...
which were passed and signed into law that caused the problems at Walter Reed.

This might be a good week for you to give up sniffing glue Senator.

4. You mean the $400-plus BILLION funding the Democrats voted along with the Repubs to pass?
So wait, Inhofe -- was that money approved by Congress (and the Democrats), or were those votes just imaginary?

9. Just like John Kerry's votes during the 2004 campaign
Remember when they trotted out a list of things that he voted to be cancelled for the military? Not a peep from them that it was Dick Cheney who SecDef making the recommendations!

10. What a weenie!
The US spends almost as much on defense as the entire rest of the world combined and the Bush junta doesn't have enough left over to fund hospitals to care for our wounded soldiers? This is clearly a problem of priorities. Junior has had plenty of money to care for wounded soldiers but he has instead chosen to use the funds for other things. Like his Maginot Line in the sky. And yet another moster aircraft carrier named after yet another loser Republican president.

Can you see Inhofe making this claim on Real Time? He would get booed off the stage. Any thinking person would laugh in his face.

11. Nice try
They're the ones sending hundreds of billions into the black hole that is Iraq. Funny how they can never send any funds for the health care of the soldiers they claim to support, but only the big corporations that supply the war machine.
