For all of you political junkies...aren't any of those around here, are there? ;-).

March 19, 2007
The race for the Democratic Presidential nomination is getting a bit tighter. Illinois Senator Barack Obama (D) has closed to within five points of the frontrunner—Senator Hillary Clinton. A week ago, Clinton held a 12-point lead.

The former First Lady now attracts 35% of the vote down slightly from 38% last week. Obama gained four points and now is the top choice for 30% of Likely Voters. That’s the highest level of support for Obama in any Rasmussen Reports survey since the Election 2008 season began.

Former North Carolina Senator John Edwards (D) lost four points but remains in third place with 11% support. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D) is up to the 5% level of support, his highest total so far. Delaware Senator Joe Biden (D) earns support from 3% of those likely to vote in a Democratic Primary.

3. I don't want him to peak too soon.
I would rather he stayed in second place behind Hillary for awhile longer. There's still a lot of time before the first primary.

5. But Obama and the others will NEVER get to be the "frontrunner"
The Chris Matthews types want Hillary and McCain, and it will take lightning bolts to get them to talk up anybody else.

Look at the Republicans. McCain is in free fall, and yet the media is all agog at the "Straight talk express" (yawn). Hillary will get the same treatment.

Polls are insignificant in this regard.

10. wow..Hillary might be worried
when the margin of error is considered, Hillary and Edwards haven't lost or gained support. But Obama has nearly wiped out Hillary's lead by winning over swing voters.

12. I think Obama is the real deal.
Edited on Mon Mar-19-07 07:52 PM by Clarkie1
He's not a career politician, he has a global perspective and background, and expertise in constitutional and civil rights law.

That's a good combination that makes him the best choice out of the current top three media favorites, but it's a long way to go.

Edit: I would like to see Richardson continue to gain more momentum and support. He's a strong candidate and ought to be polling much higher.

15. What do you mean "think". Obama is the real deal period.
I suspected it from the first time I heard him speak. Then I knew it after he followed up by having a strong voting record in the Senate that's as progressive as Hillary's and more progressive than most other Democratic senators.

I've said all along that when the dust settles, it'll be him against the repuke in the general election, and he'll end up creaming anything they throw at us. Even if I'm wrong...and I doubt if I will be...and Hillary gets the nod, she'll paste whatever repuke they throw at us, too.

Get ready for President Obama. You can take that to the bank. :smoke:

26. I can't wait to make my deposit. LOL! Obama has insight and
can analyze a situation accurately (e.g. knew the Iraq War was a mistake and didn't vote for Gonzales bec he knew he would not make a good AG). Right on the money...pun intended.

Our next prez will be Obama.

I think the guy is loaded with integrity. But that doesn't make for good "he said - she said" programming. No melodrama.

23. And Rasmussen is right leaning, and
contributes to fox news and I bet ya, that he will have the first poll ever to show that obama is ahead of clinton....I doubt that will happen but when you know who helps put butter on your table you kinda fudge every now and then, or it's known as "kiss ass"....
