Late last night or really early this a.m. I posed a question here on DU as to what all this 'pork' was that the Dems funded in order to get this bill to be passed. I was questioned as being critical to the Dems - when in fact - what I was wanting to know is why the Dems don't respond back to the * apologists and RW talking heads and * himself - as to the Dems justification for including the items they did in the bill.

I've heard 'peanuts' and 'spinach' and 'shrimp' tossed around by the MSM - who appear to be slamming the Dems for adding pork to this bill to get it passed.

Well I believe that what they funded is 'good pork'. If it is - we should defend it as such - not let the MSM and * apologists insinuate that it is 'bad pork'.

Seems to me it would be hard for any of my Repug friends to not go along with additional aid for New Orleans; or money for Walter Reed and our returning wounded soldiers; or for children that are in need of health care; or farmers or fishermen that were devastated by the weather and need some help to continue to put food on our tables and to buck up our economy.

The MSM outlets that I've listened to - let the RW talking heads spout out about the 'tax and spend Dems'. Hell * himself in his 'political theatre' response after the bill passed the house - commented on the pork - insinuating it was 'bad pork'.

For 6 years now - the Repug Congress and *Co have been squandering our money like it was going out of style. When we were critical about the 'Bridge To Nowhere' they thumbed their noses up to us and went ahead anyway. I believe just the other day I read where the money is being used for this bridge - though they tried to make it look like it wouldn't be.

Now take a look for yourself and see what is included in this bill. Looks to me like all worthwhile and defendable projects.

This appropriations bill will not bankrupt this country like *Co is making it out to be. What will bankrupt this country - both morally and economically is the continuation of this war.

What are we up to already in 'war' spending? - billions? - a trillion? - and a lot more before its over?

I saw this a.m. that an e-mail is circulating regarding the V.A. appropriations in this bill. It is a great piece of work by somebody that feels like I do regarding the shots that the Dems are taking for this bill.

We need to have a response for the 'peanut' and 'spinach' comments being bandied about to hurt the Dems. Let's defend Nancy Pelosi and the Dems on this - and hope that our Dem Congressmen and Congresswomen - go out and shove this down the throats of the Repugs.

that's the catch phrase of the day-of course with no mention of things like the bridge to nowhere that the repblic party stuck into THEIR bills.It would have been nice if the republic party would have funded Katrina and maybe raised the minimum wage

4. Pork has been part & parcel of legislation since the US came into being

The faux outrage over projects included in HR 1591 are just so much background noise. For 'pugs on Capitol Hill to suddenly sprout a sense of fiscal responsibility is the height of hypocrisy, considering the staggering cost of war & occupation of Iraq.

I also agree wholeheartedly that all these projects appear more worthwhile & beneficial than 'pug projects like Ted Stevens' 'bridge to nowhere.'

Going right to the source for information instead of engaging in idle speculation...what a concept! It cuts through vast swaths of B.S. that the corporate media are busily flagellating at this very moment. Thanks for your work!

thievery ,it has grown by leaps and bounds in the last 5 yrs.
