Who is Writing to the REPUBLICANS Who Represent Them??? |
|
Yes, I said it, here on DU. And someone is bound to take this wrong... but there seems to be clear evidence that Democrats urging other Democrats to take action on impeachment is getting us nowhere.
Until we find a way to influence "the enemy" and win them to the cause, impeachment ain't gonna happen.
Thoughts? Comments?

1. I've both written and called my Repukes. Won't do a damn bit of good. |
|
Inhofe. Sullivan.
Enough said.

4. Actually, it does do some good. They at least know what the political costs |
|
may be, and while they probably don't embrace your suggestions, they may moderate their position as a result of enough constituent feedback.

7. I want to believe that. But Inhofe and Sullivan. You know who they are, right? |

If you do I'm sure you understand why I have little belief that my calls will do a whit of good.
But, no doubt they log them in some manner. No doubt they have two columns for logging callers:
1. LOYAL BUSHIE . . . . . . OR . . . . . . 2. ENEMY COMBATANT/TERRORIST
I think I can guess where my calls get logged...

15. I hear what you are saying, but while they will probably never embrace your |
|
agenda, thay may be forced to moderate their own, if even slightly.
They may pass up a chance to appear with bush, or they may quietly fail to support some administration initiative or other.

2. Have written my "esteemed" senators |
|
Chambliss & Isakson, on various issues. It would be just as productive to write a letter to a garden gnome, unfortunately...
But I think you do make a good point here.

I've got a huge stack of form letters from Orrin Hatch... |
|
I wish the paper was softer, I could use it to wipe my ass. It's sad that so many trees have to die for such an ignoble cause as the franking privilege.

5. less than 3 months of Dem control and oversight and Bushco is staggering a bit |
|
let's be a bit more patient and let Gonzogate unwind - that $140k contract out of the OVP could be a bombshell no matter how the Repugs spin it

6. I used to write my repuke all the time on everything |
|
don't have to do that anymore thank goodness. Election took care of that nasty chore. I wrote him three or four times on impeachment while he was in office. All I ever got back was a form letter.

I now have one Democratic Senator I worked to get in but I only have a Republican Congressman. I did my best to try to get him out, but unfortunately he has more money than God and married a lobbyist.
My impeachment activist group, the Patriots for Peace and Accountability, met with a staffer on the Government Reform and Oversight Committee, this was after continued requests for a meeting with our congressman. The staff office referred us to the Committee. Tom Davis is the ranking Member. It was a pleasant meeting and the staffer discussed all the various investigations when we said we wanted Bush investigated for Impeachment.
One thing this Spring, Davis voted no to escalation of the war, so I think our input may have made a difference. We write to him constantly.

10. I think a well worded dose of guilt does some good. How many suicides is this veto |
|
going to allow happen because our veterans were denied the essential resources they needed? How can you possible explain to a mother who lost her son that you stopped the money that would have gone to the services that would have saved his life? What reason are you going to assign this trivial political matter that you yourself call, "artificial"? If this troop deadline is indeed artificial than why does it matter to you? Your first responsibility should be to our troops not your political partisanship."
Well that's the gist of my soon to be letter to mr. coocoo banana.
"How can you sleep while our American soldiers are dieing"?
Try and break through that barrier of thousand dollar bills.

called or sent an email to dana whorbacher's office everyday for about 3 months asking 'Now that the Downing Street Memos have been published, when will investigations leading to impeachment of the president begin?'
I never got a reply or a response.

but I seriously doubt Sen. Kit Bond is going to listen. I think he was one of the few people that voted for torture about a year ago. I'm represented by a Dem in the House, fortunately.

14. I have phoned Sen. McConnell's office twice this month to remind him that... |
|
he represents the State of KY and the polls in the State of KY are running counter to what he's voting for and he best keep that in mind when he's up for re-election.

16. My senators are Cornyn and Hutchinson from Texas |
|
I have written and called both. Months later I get some form letter, blah, blah, blah...
My representative is Lloyd Doggett, at least. Before the re-redistricted us, it was Lamar Smith and his response was "what, impeachment? oh, no, that's not anything I've heard about... thank you so much."
After hearing Cornyn in the Senate hearing yesterday, I know that goes in one ear and out the other.
But I do try!
