Someone please explain to me how U.S. Attorney's and how the process |
|
of appointing them was changed within the Patriot Act? What does the U.S. Attorney process have to do with terrorism? The only thing it does is give the president more power over the whole process (like bypassing the congress) (which is not surprising with Bush), otherwise, there is no other reason for it to be in the Patriot Act and no reason for the process to change.
Also, since the law was changed with the Patriot Act, what Gonzales did for Rove/Bush (they deny it)would be completely legal, right?

1. The change was that they could appoint USA without Senate |
|
confirmation. Before the Patriot Act change, local Judges could appoint until the DOJ sent a name to the Senate. The problem for Rove/Gonzo is they started replacing Repug USA and they started speaking out.

as with many bills, like the funding one, the Patriot Act got stuff added that might have little to do with the basis for the bill itself. Big bills like that are the favorite for pigggybacking stuff on. At the end of the day, after all the staffers and lobbyists write all sorts of shit, the congress is faced with an up or down vote on the bill in its entirety.
but a law passed that way is still a law, and all its subclauses are legal. whether the purpose of the item was to help catch terrorists or to help peanut farmers, it is still law until congress changes it and the Pres approves the change or gets a veto overridden

3. Bush should be impeached on this alone. What is it going to take? |
|
Couldn't they get articles of impeachment to pass in the House? Then the Senate or is it solely up to the Senate?
George Dubya Bush should be tried for treason. He took an oath to protect the U.S. Constitution during his coronation and has almost entirely replaced it with the Patriot Act. Why our Representatives and Senators are not doing anything about it is beyond me. It's a shame the day of the "coup" would be impossible today. Everything is so high tech the people couldn't revolt.
