Rasmussen: Congress job perf. is 20% Good, 41% Fair, 38% Poor |
|
Rasmussen Reports has found that the country's approval rating for Congress says 20% think Congress is doing a good or excellent job, 41% say it's only a fair job, and 38% say Congress is doing its job poorly.
I'd put them in the good category, going after corruption methodically, working the system fairly, and not engaging in Republican style rush to judgement or knee-jerk accusations. I know some DUers demand impeachment now, but remember that it was the investigations that stopped the Clinton agenda and the impeachment process, seen to be rushed and politicized, that helped Clinton out and highlighted his achievements and optimism.
By way of comparison, the last Republican Congress survey gave ratings of 11% "good/excellent" and 47% "poor."

1. The fact that Congress is doing something is an improvement |
|
That's enough right there for them to get a better grade in my book.
I honestly have no idea why the last couple of Congresses (is that a word or should it be Congressi? ;-) ) were even convened they did absolutely nothing and wasted a lot of fuel flying people from around the country to spend a couple of useless weeks in DC.

3. The problem with your analysis is that you buy into the perceptions |

and plastic reality argument.
The reality of the situation is 2 fold.
1. The Clinton Impeachment was seen as bogus because it was bogus. 2. The lack of a bush impeachment is seen as bogus because it is bogus.
I'm not sure if it's the moral relitivism streak that runs so deep among a fair number of our ruling classes, or if it's cowardice, but the fact that a lot more people in both parties aren't stepping up to their constitutional responsibilities and demanding impeachment of an obvious criminal conspiracy to subvert our government is depressing.
I know you are scared shitless that the "public" is too stupid to discern the difference between impeaching Clinton in a last gasp effort to justify years of bogus charges, and impeaching long running and ongoing criminal behavior by the bush administration.
This is our challenge, as citizens, to convince our leaders that we aren't as dumb as they think.

4. These polls really don't tell us anything. |
|
They need to ask why they think Congress is doing a good/OK/poor job. Congress is made up of Republicans and Democrats, so we have no way of knowing if the responder is saying Congress is doing a "fair" job because one Party is creating problems for getting stuff done.

5. Do polls ever suggest the general public rates Congress positively? |
