WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE?

What Kind of People?
By Nancy Greggs

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE talk about the sacrifices necessary to win a war, while they, their family members and their friends are reaping the financial profits generated by that war?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE find it necessary to lie about and/or cover-up their activities, while at the same time insisting those activities were perfectly legal and aboveboard?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE claim that they will tell the truth, but steadfastly refuse to do so other than behind closed doors, and not under oath?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE swear to uphold the Constitution, and then look for ways to circumvent it, ignore it, even dismantle it?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE think the loss of American freedoms is of no more importance than the loss of an American city?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE put the bottom-line of corporations above the welfare of their fellow citizens?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE who have never served question the patriotism of those who have not only served, but have done so with honor?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE dismiss the needs of the poorest, while catering to the greed of the richest?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE hold themselves out to be Christians, while spreading the very intolerance and hatred that is contrary to the teachings of Christ?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE send American soldiers into combat without sufficient equipment, and at the same time talk about Supporting the Troops?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE place themselves on a platform of fiscal responsibility, while plunging the country into unprecedented debt?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE accuse their opponents of being spineless sheep, as they rubber-stamp political policies without thought of the consequences, or even a modicum of oversight?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE choose aggression over diplomacy, and then decry the inevitability of conflict?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE trot out personal responsibility as a talking point, but never fail to blame someone else for their own shortcomings?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE pour billions into an unwinnable war, but pinch pennies when it comes to those who are fighting that war at their behest?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE see a potential terrorist in every Muslim, but never see the potential danger in a crazed Christian preacher who sanctions torture and assassination?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE accept political office on the basis of serving their constituents, and then ignore the will of those constituents completely?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE say one thing and do the opposite, while accusing others of hypocrisy?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE brag endlessly about their own patriotism, while using their political power and resources to thwart the will of the People by supporting questionable election processes?

WHAT KIND OF PEOPLE?

REPUBLICAN PEOPLE.

A recent Pew Research survey shows that voters who identify themselves as Democrats are far greater in number than those identifying themselves as Republicans.

I wonder why.

Maybe because the American citizenry has finally had enough of THAT KIND OF PEOPLE destroying their country.

After all of the deceit, the manipulation, the spin, the excuses, the photo-ops, the obfuscation, the hemming and hawing, the think tanks, the pseudo-philosophy, the faked Christianity, the legal wrangling, the PNAC predictions, the voter intimidation, the skating, the skewering, the swiftboating, the fabrications, the false promises, the no child left behinds, the fightin' over theres, the accusations of treason, the screeching, the flailing, the hiding, the stammering, the faulty reasoning, the dumbing-down, the arrogance, the petulance and the God damned out-and-out lying ... it all comes down to one simple thing:

The American citizenry has finally had enough of THAT KIND OF PEOPLE destroying their country.

Amen to that.

Amen.

The implication is that there is a disconnect in their social development.

Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 11:51 PM by NanceGreggs
... but I think the disconnect is between what traditional Republican voters have always believed and the reality of what the country has become under the rule of their party.

In decades gone by, the Republican believed that if you worked hard, you would reap the rewards of your labour. The homeless guy on the street wasn't the victim of circumstances, he was just lazy; the welfare mom was not someone in need of a helping hand, she was just finding a way to suck money out of the system.

Nowadays, they see hard-working people losing their homes; they see workers who have put in twenty-five years losing their pensions. They see that they are no longer immune from the unemployment line, the welfare check, the food bank.

It's frightening -- and no one scares as easily as people who put so much faith into a party that has betrayed them.

So they blame the gays, the liberals, the Democrats -- whoever is handy -- because to blame their own party is tantamount to blaming themselves for having been such suckers.

It's human nature to whistle past the graveyard; but no one is whistling as much as the Republican voter these days, because he knows that thanks to his own party's polciies, he's just one outsourced job, one medical emergency, one natural disaster away from the breadline.

I honestly feel sympathy for these people -- not the GOPers in power, but those who thought they were ensuring the American Dream by voting Republican, only to find out that it is they themselves who have unwittingly contributed to a national nightmare.

May I add: After all the six-and-a-half-year long of in-your-face thievery and decadent corruption at their highest levels, THAT KIND OF PEOPLE is still getting free passes by their media employees and talking points' catapults.

The consolation prize is: the more they go on through their never-ending robbery, the deeper they sink in the polls, although they'll never admit to that FACT because they R in their surreal State Of Denial, 24/7.

26. "Who Are These People?" Burt Bacharach w/ Elvis Costello
Edited on Wed Apr-04-07 01:48 AM by Hissyspit
Who Are These People? (February 2006)

Lyrics by Burt Bacharach and Tonio K.

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

Who are these people that destroy everything
And sell off the future for whatever it brings
And what kind of leaders can’t admit when they’re wrong?
Make em stop

This stupid mess we’re in just keeps getting worse
So many people dying needlessly

Looks like the liars may inherit the earth
Even pretending to pray
And getting away with it

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
And who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
We’ve got to make them stop

Who are these people that keep telling us lies
And how did these people get control of our lives
and who’ll stop the violence cause it’s out of control?
Make em stop

See, things really have to change
Or we're all FUCKED

32. Miss Molly Would Be Proud
Once again, your writings have touched my heart. For the past six years I have told people that I am not a Christian like Bush. Their list of "morality" issues has made me sick. I have often wondered what happened to Christ's teaching of caring for your fellow man in some of these evangelical churches. Their doctrines make no sense to me.

I didn't see most of the temper tantrum yesterday as I was taking my daughter to school. I actually laughed at a few comments-not a joyful laugh, much more of a I don't believe what he is saying laugh. He talked about Congress not listening to the generals. Well, he may have listened but then he fired all who didn't go with his program. He talked about people not wanting to live under tyranny but I guess he was talking about other countries and not ours.

Years ago I would once in a very, very great while cross a party line and vote for an independent. I learned my lesson when I voted for John Anderson. It's a sad state of affairs when I don't believe anything a republican says. I wonder what game of deceit is behind the words. They have prostituted Christianity and I believe the number of times they have told the truth about anything is zip. zilch, nada.

Once again, your writing hit the proverbial nail on the head. You are a treasure.

36. And the numbers of such people the body politic has spawned are mind-boggling,
baffling, and inexplicable unless viewed from the perspective that our very sick society has been fashioned in large part by our national agenda being controlled/poisoned for more than fifty years by the hate, fear, greed and suspicion promulgated by the extreme right.
