Gutsy John Edwards Jettisons a Second Fox-Sponsored Debate
Gutsy John Edwards Jettisons a Second Fox-Sponsored Debate

The Edwards campaign explains, "there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective."

Showing striking leadership, presidential candidate John Edwards, encouraged by Black activists, Black bloggers and Jesse Jackson, dropped out of a scheduled debate for September to be sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC) and Fox News.

Edwards deputy campaign manager Jonathan Prince explained to the AP, "there's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending they're objective." The Edwards campaign went out of its way to point out that Edwards planned to participate in a CBC debate hosted by CNN. The Democratic National Committee has also come out in opposition to the Fox debates, excluding them from the six debates they plan to sanction.

Edwards Deputy Campaign Manager Jonathan Prince Statement on Edwards' Decision Not to Participate in Fox Debate

Chapel Hill, North Carolina - John Edwards for President Deputy Campaign Manager Jonathan Prince released the following statement today on Senator Edwards' decision not to participate in the Fox debate.

"We just called the CBC to let them know that we're looking forward to their debate with CNN but we're not going to participate in the proposed debate with Fox. There's just no reason for Democrats to give Fox a platform to advance the right-wing agenda while pretending to be objective. If there was any uncertainty as to Fox's objectivity, it was put to rest when they attacked Democratic candidates, Democratic constituency groups, and the Nevada Democratic Party when their last proposed debate was canceled for lack of support. The CBC champions critical issues that matter enormously to the future of our country, and they deserve to be discussed in a forum that will give those issues - and Democrats - a fair hearing."

I'm wondering if you're a campaign staffer. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but in the name of full disclosure it would be nice to know. I like Edwards a lot, but papering a forum with press releases is a tad unusual.

6. Oh PULEEZE...give us a break...
Every campaign's supporters puts out information here.. you don't have to be "a staffer"...that's a really lam-o accusation.

How many ZILLIONS of Hillary "poll" results did we see until recently when she was found to have slipped?

Were they posted by staffers too?

13. Hi Hedda!
Thought about you the other day, how's it goin' in your part of the world?

Good to see you! :hi:

Julie

P.S. John Locke's not a paid operative but he's an ardent supporter of Edwards and never steps into the mud pit. He sets a good example of positive on-line activism.

4. Do you think this tactic will work?
I know that Faux news is full of it but they do represent a huge voting group. Which considering the rethugs choices so far a lot of them are considering crossing over for the pres. vote. And this could isolate him to just Dem. voters because Faux viewers don't switch channels to catch news they might have missed.

7. Really 29% (republicans) of the American public?
Constitute a large group of the Democratic voters in the primary?

Go Edwards, good call!

It's long past time for Dems to stop treating Faux as though they have any credibility.
