Anyone out there have an informed opinion on Lyndon LaRouche?
I was walking by the library the other day and there were some LaRouche volunteers there handing out fliers. I took one and read it but couldn't really make heads or tails out of it. Some of it seems pretty relevant and sensible and very progressive but some of it just left me totally clueless. I've also visited a couple of websites so I'm looking for someone who can just sum it up a little for me.

2. to sum up: LaRouche is a loon
He went to jail for fraud (credit card, I think) and often comes out with totally wacky ideas.

3. Yeah
LaRouche is nuts and probably still sitting in prison. Sounds like you got one of the tamer fliers they hand out. In general, LaRouche is far rightwing. Why he chooses the Democratic Party I have no idea. He's been repudiated by every organization of The Party.

4. I think of them as performance art
About 25% is interesting info and 75% is raving craziness. They are sort of the political equivalent of Amway.

5. google
the guy is a nutcase. Politically he has been all over the map from far left to far right. On the other hand he might actually be right about some of the organizational structure of the global elite's system of control.

6. He's been around a long time
and is generally described as a nutcase. Tries to get in Virginia politics. Don't take him seriously. One thing, don't ask his volunteers to get involved in activist stuff you are doing, they are widely known to take over those matters. Also see "Green Libertarian Party of Virginia"

13. I'll defend the "Queen is a drug dealer" thing
Remember the Opium wars? If the royal classes of England have stopped selling drugs in the world market, can anyone say when? What year did they stop?

On a related note, one of the royals of Saudi Arabia is under fire for running a massive international cocaine ring.

So the "Queen is a drug dealer"? It's VERY plausible.

17. no that's asking to prove a positive
I didn't ask "prove they aren't selling drugs". We know they were selling drugs, I'm asking what year did they stop?

8. I think he's a cult leader.
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 12:23 PM by LoZoccolo
I was going around with my video camera a few years ago, and one of his supporters approached me and went on about things like how LaRouche is the most truthful man who's ever lived on this planet. She gave me a bunch of free literature, but you'll notice that there are prices on it, and advertisements for more expensive literature. It seems a little bit like Scientology in that regard, that they put out a lot of pricey publications.

He went to jail in the late eighties as well.

10. He exists on matching funds running for president. So the more he collects
we the taxpayer match up to some limit. When the limit is reached you don't hear much from them, IMO.

18. Senator Kerry's opinion -" Larouche is nuts"
Edited on Thu Apr-12-07 01:34 PM by karynnj
http://blog.johnkerry.com/2007/04/visionaries_in_the_emerald_cit.html#more

There was a longer account on someone's blog, but I can't find it. Here a Larouche person kept insisting to the Kerrys that global warming is a hoax. Teresa tried reason as did John - then he took the microphone away and said this as his last word after the woman said she was a Larouche person.

I have seen them claim to be the true followers of FDR. In Boston, when I went to a Patrick rally - they claimed to have "made" Kerry filibuster Alito. In NJ, I was told that it was their young people who got Bill Clinton elected, but Kerry wouldn't listen to them. My guess - they lie a lot and Kerry is right - he's nuts.
