Lesser - Known Tales Of The Great U.S. Attorney Purge
http://www.trustme.com/story.php?title=Lesserknown-tales--Great-US-Attorney-Purge-1

Even the politically ignorant have heard something of the Great U.S. Attorney Purge, in which the Bush Department of Justice canned U.S. Attorneys in various states who were deemed less-than-loyal Bushies. The prosecutors (it is alleged) had either committed the sin of going after Republicans (as had San Diego's Carol Lam) or they had not been sufficiently ruthless in going after cases of alleged voter registration fraud.

Karl Rove has relentlessly pushed the registration fraud meme, even though all studies indicate that this "scourge" is actually next to non-existent. As Salon notes:
More generally, there seems to be little statistical basis for the Republican fixation on voter fraud. The few studies that have been done show fraud to be insignificant to the outcome of elections; it has been measured at levels as low as .0004 percent...of all ballots cast.
