President Clinton: Gonzales Should ‘Step Aside’

In an interview with CNN’s Larry King tonight, President Bill Clinton says the best thing Alberto Gonzales can do for the President he has “served so loyally is to step aside”:

I understand why President Bush is reluctant to let him go. I don’t think he ought to force the President to fire him. He had a long and good run here. And if what I saw coming out of Sen. Specter today and others is right, and there’s a lot of opposition to him in the Congress. These cases raise real troubling questions — these U.S. Attorney firings. The best thing he could do for this president that he served so loyally is to step aside.

2. Clinton's words are the honey to help Gonzales swallow the bitter
medicine of his own demise as AG. The sweet talk is not praise, IMO, but a parachute for Gonzales to strap on before he jumps from the plane, or is kicked out by Josh Bolten in a late-night phone call this evening.

When fire-belching fundie nutcases like Tom Coburn are calling for your head, it's time to pack up and go.

3. "Step aside" as in, "Hey! Move your ass before you get hit by that truck!"

Gonzo can "step aside" or attempt to be AG with tire tracks on his suit and "Mack" imbedded in his forehead.

4. For sure-
reading the RW site someone so generously provided in GD...
The posters were so hateful and derogatory of Gonzales after he sacrificed his integrity and his soul to do Bush's bidding.
Perhaps Gonzales thought Bush would offer him some type of protection from prosecution that just doesn't seem to be forthcoming.

After Gonzales resigns, he will be Bush's linchpin sooner or later, when he's called to testify.
Unless, he has a coincidental unfortunate occurrence like some do when their usefulness is over.
