Hatch a rare break in the waves on a choppy day for GonzalesThe Utah senator lays off as other lawmakers come out swingingWASHINGTON - It was crunch time for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. His job was on the line as he appeared under the bright lights and television cameras before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
And Sen. Orrin Hatch had a burning question: "How many employees do you have at the Department of Justice?"
Not to worry. Hatch, who has been on the Senate Judiciary Committee for 30 years and counting, had a follow-up. "What are the main core functions of the Department of Justice?" he asked. "You overview the FBI?"
Maybe it's because the senator still is recovering from shoulder surgery, but for several minutes Thursday, he lobbed softballs. Not just typical softballs, but questions so wispy a gentle breeze in the committee room would have sent Hatch's inquiries drifting into the ether.

http://www.sltrib.com/news/ci_5710889Many a year ago, I spent a lot of time in Utah and IIRC, this was a very conservative newspaper ~~ LOL ~~ Like there is much in Utah that is progressive or liberal. So, IMO, for them to some out downing Hatch and to do so in a rather sarcastic tone throughout the article, a bit of a surprise to me.
Frankly, the article made Hatch look like a political hack and a buffoon ~~ something that to most of us was apparent and accepted for a long time. But...for the press in Utah to come out and slap Whorin' Hatch around? That was a surprise ~~ well, at least a surprise to me.
