Wow! DU has an unbelievably nasty tone today! From the bashing that we are giving
to Corzine and Edwards, as some look for ways to eat our own, you would think this is freeper central! What is up with all the judgemental and malicious comments about these two?

1. saracat, I always enjoy your posts but I must ask where your concern is...
when Clinton is continuously bashed?

2. Hey, I have defended Hillary in the past too!
Unfortunately, her bashing is so continual it almost is the norm. I think it is okay to criticize candidates but the bashing is wrong!

5. the Hillary bashing is non-stop. And if you'll look real closely...
...you're seeing people who are not even Clinton supporters going "WTF???"

8. I agree. I just noticed today so really nasty attacks on
Corzine and Edwards. I may not agree with all our Dems but I will never see the logic of anyone on DU doing the GOP's work for them!
Even if you have a favorite candidate, or official, why be destructive about any Democrat? I may not care for some I hope people can be supportive of all our people.

4. Yeah, but it doesn't *count* when HRC is bashed
:sarcasm:

In all honesty, though, I think bashing in general is pretty consistent here, it just varies from person to person.

6. Bob Marley's Birthday, isn't it?
According to my daughter, they celebrate that as a holiday, at her school in Berkeley. The students do anyways......not so much the teachers.

But on a more serious note, are you referring to the fact that this is a day of mourning for Virginia Tech?

13. ahem...
Wiki

I think your daughter's not being entirely honest with you about why they celebrate it as a holiday at Berkeley. Let's just say Bob Marley wasn't born on April 20th. :hippie:

Marijuana's birthday!

Smokers celebrate joys of marijuana on drug's unofficial holiday

Getting baked, smoking up, toking or partaking in an herbal refreshment. Whatever you call it, it amounts to the same thing: getting stoned.

Every year, burnouts from disparate backgrounds join together for the common purpose of getting high. April 20, or 4/20, marks a marijuana-smoking holiday for stoners nationwide, and droves of pot devotees utilize this holiday as an opportunity to smoke themselves silly.

"I think that it's the people who smoke infrequently or not at all who get the biggest kick out of pointing out 4:20 on the calendar and on the clock," said Andrew Yaksic, a freshman sociology major at Harvard University. "I'll be smoking, but it'll just be a coincidence."

vicious around election times. I stay out of those threads for my own sanity.

11. The word "Bashing" is overused and underdefined......
because what is "Bashing" to one is justified "Criticism" to another.

I don't believe that one can determine what other folks should do round here....rather we should be the examples and show ourselves be tolerant and avoid "Bashing" those who are said to be "Bashing".

In otherwords, if enough folks feel as you do and instead of bashing the perceived bashers, would allow the "offensive" threads to sink....that might work better. I also believe that the "hide a thread" feature is meant to allow those who don't like what they see to have some control to reduce their exasperation.

Fortunately for those who seek it, some measurable "freedom of speech" is going to be allowed even here on DU no matter what you may think.

15. I think a lot of people are really really stressed this week.
Columbine, Oklahoma City, Gonzo hearings, Virginia Tech, partial-birth abortion ban upheld and now the Johnson Space Center - I think everyone's nerves are frazzled.

16. Let's face it, there's agendas galore at DU
and plenty of astroturfing and lots of Freepers dressing up as "concerned democrats" and it all becomes quite pronounced at election time.

And yet, the towering import of DU in the real world is -----not so much.
Still less 10% of Democrats are even aware of DU, let alone daily readers.
By my personal polling at every Party event I attend.

So the good news, lots of room for growth. Plenty of upside.
Just don't get sucked into the drama.

20. My theory is that it doesn't take too many people bshing before there are many
If you have someone who seems to support "A", continually bash "B". Even though it is not logical, it leads to "B" people kncking "A" even if they previously admired "A". So, it escalates.

It is also true that all criticism is not bashing - though it may feel like it is.

but then the persistence of the Hillary bashing really has me worried.

(...better add that my guy's not running, so I'm leaning towards Obama, then maybe Richardson, but I'm not a Clinton supporter in these primaries)
