Progressives need not apply.... |
|
....don't you see what they're doing?
....front-loading big states to create a National Primary where money will totally rule....
....neither party has figured out (in this age of instant, accurate financial transactions) how to assure clean, fair and accurate elections....
....the major primary candidates have/need obscene amounts of primary money 'primarily' donated by corporations for corporations....
....Dems still haven't quite developed a full backbone (some say, never will) to take on bushco since they both share corporate financial sponsors....
....the corporations have created a system in which someone from the grass-roots will never receive the nomination unless sanctioned by corporate America first....
....I see many, many progressives, yet so few running for President....
....so my question is, 'Is it possible for a progressive/populist to actually win the nomination of the Democratic Party?'....
....or, we'll take your vote but progressives need not apply?....

2. Well, I'm glad to see that some people are paying attention. Thanks for this. |

The "national primary" will also effectively kill Dean's 50 state strategy, which the OG Party Power Brokers have hated since it was created. :kick: & R

3. Well, I suggest supporting the Democratic nominee, whoever he or she is. |
|
And then, once they're in, go after their base, if their base happens to be corporatist.
How do you do it? Start perusing public records and anytime you find scandal or corruption, dig it up and report on it.
I'm telling you, there are hundreds, maybe thousands of good people out there who have been railroaded by the system. Environmentalist, ex-stormwater workers, ordinary homeowners and they all have stories to tell.
Who knows? Your movement may end up having a powerful grassroots populist base.

but unless someone with deep pockets and a no-strings agenda comes forward, it's going to be the same old sordid story.

5. Hillary pushed out a lot of Democratic candidates behind the scenes for her run. |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-21-07 10:36 AM by w4rma
It was Clintonistas who pushed for the front loading of the primary schedule. They did that cynically to try to give Hillary an advantage in 2008, whether or not they even care about the future after that.
My suggestion is that if you want something done about all this, then stop Hillary. Coalesce behind an ABH candidate. And do it quickly.

I've stated this time and again. There has been an ongoing push to drive out progressives and their candidates from the party for the past thirty plus years. The obvious start to this was during the '72 campaign, when the corporatistas in the Democratic Party, the ones who control the purse strings and the machinery, refused to do a damn thing for McGovern's campaign. His nominatin was a complete suprise to them, and when it was a done deal they refused to support him. So much for the corporatista's demands that liberals, leftists and Dems support the nominee no matter who it is. Hypocricy, thy name was Democratic party.
And that attitude continues to hold sway up until today. In fact during the Clinton years it grew stronger, as the party swung ever rightward, and became ever more deeply enamored of corporate money. Now we are lucky to see the occaisional liberal in Congress, but as far as the White House is concerned, the Dems will go to any lengths to insure that it is in a safe, corporatista's hands. Thus, the increasing push to front load the primaries, the increased build up of mostly corporate money, the excortiating attacks on Kucinich or any other leftist that stands up to them.
And yet when election time comes around, we hear the same old demand to fall in line and vote for the party that despises us only slightly less that the 'Pugs do.
It's a crying shame, and in the end, I think that it will bite them on the ass in '08, especially if the give the nod to Hillary.

7. Progressives need not apply, and if they do, |

they'll be "ignored," ridiculed, and "silenced."
Of course, progressives owe the party their vote, anyway. :eyes:

8. What does "front loading big states to create |
|
a National Primary where money will totally rule" mean?
I have little knowledge of the history of primaries and any recent changes. Pretend I'm a curious teenager in your response(s).
Thanks.
