Ignatius of 'Wash Post' Previews George Tenet Book: It Will Make Your 'Hair Curl'
It looks like Tenet is going to confirm everything we know about how Rice screwed up the pre-9/11 intelligence and how Cheney pushed the CIA to back the war over their objections!

Ignatius of 'Wash Post' Previews George Tenet Book: It Will Make Your 'Hair Curl'
April 16, 2007

SOURCE: Editor and Publisher

The long awaited tell-all (or at least tell-some) memoir from former CIA director George Tenet is coming at the end of the month. Apparently Washington Post columnist David Ignatius has seen it or been briefed on it because on Chris Matthews' Sunday show today on CNN he spilled some beans about it.

...

Ignatius replied: "It's going be very tough. George Tenet has been doing a slow burn ever since he left the CIA. He's been angrier and angrier as he saw himself being essentially made the fall guy on WMD in Iraq. And he's gonna come back saying he and his agency, the CIA, were pushed, again and again, by Cheney and Cheney's people to give him the answers that they wanted. And he's got chapter and verse on that."

He added: "He will tell a story that I think will make people's hair curl. But he's been waiting a long time to tell this…And he'll also say—this is a very important part of this—that, on the question of what would happen in Iraq after the invasion, the CIA pretty consistently warned, 'You have trouble ahead. You will not be able to unite this country. Sunnis and Shiites are gonna be at daggers.'"

Apparently NBC's Andrea Mitchell knows something, too, because she kicked: "He'll also attack and criticize Condoleezza Rice, who has denied a critical briefing before 9/11…a July briefing. They actually have the slide show that they showed her, where they were telling her that al Qaeda was threatening…You're gonna be re-fighting both sides of who lost Iraq, who lost the WMD struggle. It might get pretty brutal."

Tenet's book is already #132 at amazon.com in sales rankings.

4. this may answer the question that DUers have been asking
WHERE's CONDI??????

Bet she also has a heads up on the book.

Between Richard Clark and Tenet... Everybody will known 9-11 happened because of her.

6. Neither thing is "news"--except that the former CIA director is saying it.
That Condi Rice ignored 9/11 warnings. That Cheney was "cherry-picking" intelligence, and pressuring the CIA for lies to support this heinous war. I guess Tenet doesn't frequent DU, or he thinks his readers don't.

I doubt he will enlighten us on the things many of us would like to know. For instance...

Where was Donald Rumsfeld during the critical hour on 9/11, after the WTC had been hit and two planes were headed to DC? Says he was "in a meeting," unaware. Uh-huh.

And what was the impact of Rumsfeld's decision to draw all NORAD decision-making powers into his own hands, six months before 9/11, and then go AWOL on the day?

Why did NORAD and the AF not follow standard procedures on that day, and on that day only?

How did the FBI get a spotless, in tact passport out of the WTC rubble, after the two planes exploded into nothingness?

Why did the Bushites out Valerie Plame and Brewster-Jennings? I mean, why really?

Whom does he hold responsible for those outings?

Who is in control of our government...our military...the "red button"?

What are the Bushites using torture for? Is there any truth to their assertion that they are torturing prisoners to "keep us safe"? Or is it just for business purposes and for covering their tracks?

Well, I could go on. I'm sure there are hundreds of questions we all have that George Tenet will never answer. As for the spat over who's responsible for the worst war crime in our history--a war crime that was coldly and deliberately planned and executed, in which more than a half a million people have been mercilessly slaughtered, and which could have been prevented by heeding "the lessons of Vietnam"--there are sins of commission, and sins of Omission, as my Catholic grade schools teachers used to day. Why didn't Tenet quit and blow the whistle, when he saw this disaster coming our way?

7. Thanks for the reminder
Although I doubt I'll read this. I don't want to be snarky, but why write a book with information that's been known for years? I mean anyone with a map and minimum amount of knowledge about Iraq could have told bush and congress that this Iraq invasion concept was flawed from inception. Oh...wait a minute...we did!

As for the Condi: if it isn't an oil contract, she ain't interested.

I'm reading Nemesis by Chalmers Johnson. Now that book will set your hair on fire.

8. The WH damage control machinery is no doubt in full-gear....
preparing the lies, denials, and reprisals.

Better hide your medal, Mr. Tenet. They are comin' for it.

11. Bushco will attack his crediblity---they will "ask" "Why did he accept
the Medal of Honor if what he says is true?" and it will degenerate from there...

The slime will cover up the information for most dumbass Americans....

9. I guess the Medal of Freedom just wasn't enough....
I can't wait. Yes this was all "known", but if you listen to network news it is still insinuation. This is the horse's mouth (or the other end).

10. So What? How many others have written books exposing these assholes for the lowlifes they are?
And it hasn't made a bit of difference in anything because the asshole is still in charge and he still has the packed courts and the packed justice department, a rabid base of supporters who don't give a shit about the truth as long as it's to their financial benefit, and a horde of pink tutu democrats who continually let him get away with his shit, not to mention a press that's complicit in his criminal activities. So what? Another tell-all book that tells-all, but no one is listening.

13. Yup, you nailed it--every time I think "this is it, the jig is up" when
one of these former-admin tell-all books come out, nothing comes of it. And then I remember--by the time a book comes out with details of a scandal or wrongdoing, it's already conventional wisdom and way past the point of investigation. Although Henry Waxman isn't letting go of Condi Rice and the WMD thing, after all these years--that is encouraging.
