He’s YOUR President (and you’re welcome to him)
By Nancy Greggs

During a recent appearance on the Daily Show, John Bolton reiterated his position that Bush’s loyalty is owed to the people who voted for him, as opposed to the usual tradition of a president governing in the interests of the country. While I am thrilled with Bolton's ability to grasp the bleedin' obvious, I think it's been glaringly apparent that this kind of partisan approach has been in play since day one of the Bush administration.

And that’s fine by me. I never thought of Bush as being my president anyway – probably because I’m a stickler for my president having been duly elected, which this one certainly wasn’t. And besides, I really don’t want to be seen as having any association with the current Idiot-in-charge, nor his policies.

So I’m glad Mr. Bolton cleared that all up for us: George W. Bush is only the president of those who supported him – or, I suppose, those that still do, which is a much smaller number than it once was.

That having been said, I’d like to address those who are still being presidented by this paltry excuse for a leader:

YOUR PRESIDENT is a liar. He lied about the reasons for invading Iraq; the non-existent link between Hussein and 9-11, securing yellowcake from Niger, WMDs, mobile chemical labs, and all of the other nonsense he knew to be total fabrication.

YOUR PRESIDENT is an arrogant fool. He pranced around in a military get-up and declared Mission Accomplished, knowing that he was about to send thousands of US troops to their deaths on a mission that he couldn’t even define, no less accomplish.

YOUR PRESIDENT is a clueless buffoon, who didn't bother himself with the all-too-obvious consequences of invading a country rife with opposing secular factions, or people who might take offence at being occupied. As a president under the influence (of who knows what), he actually believed that putting Abu Ghraib under new management (same torture, brand-new torturers!) was the way to win hearts and minds.

YOUR PRESIDENT is a thief. Billions of dollars have been poured into the coffers of war-profiteers with administration ties, and billions have simply gone missing. And any inquiries into where that money went has given the phrase Don't ask, don't tell a whole new meaning.

YOUR PRESIDENT is an embarrassment. His lack of knowledge about even the most fundamental basics, domestic and international, has been a source of humiliation for all Americans. The fact that he actually prides himself on his lack of intelligence, as though it were some kind of down-home charm that should be admired, is enough to make anyone with an average IQ retch.

YOUR PRESIDENT is a hypocrite. He tortures and murders with abandon, and then holds himself out as a good Christian who communicates with God. I can assure you, Jesus wouldn’t give this heathen the time of day, no less engage in conversation with him on a regular basis.

YOUR PRESIDENT has never supported the troops. He continues to send our fighting men and women into harm’s way without sufficient equipment or a viable military strategy, and then houses the wounded in deplorable, privatized conditions so that his buddies can make a buck off their suffering.

YOUR PRESIDENT is a phony. Unless he’s even dumber than I think (which doesn’t seem possible), he believes that a well-lit photo-op – complete with sets, props and extras – is a suitable substitute for true leadership.

YOUR PRESIDENT is dumb. He can’t open his mouth without mangling the language, or saying something so incoherent it takes at least a dozen right-wing pundits appearing on talk shows for a week to try to explain what the president really meant to say.

YOUR PRESIDENT is a coward. After six-plus years in office, he has yet to speak before an audience that isn’t hand-picked, or respond to a question he doesn’t like. As for his military record, all we know for sure is that he showed up for his dental appointments while keeping Texas safe from Charlie.

YOUR PRESIDENT is devoid of a conscience. While troops were dying in Iraq, he thought it was funny to make jokes about those pesky WMDs that were never found. He doesn’t care about the faltering economy, the staggering debt, the gutting of funding for education, social services, etc. As long as his war-machine continues to swim in money, the rest of the country’s needs be damned.

YOUR PRESIDENT is lazy. He has spent more time on vacation than any other president, and can’t even be bothered to read (even if it’s a memo entitled Bin Laden Determined to Strike in the US), if it takes time away from more important tasks - like clearing brush.

YOUR PRESIDENT is incompetent, and he surrounds himself with people who are even more incompetent than he is, in an attempt to make himself look like he knows what he’s doing.

He thinks Michael Brown did a heck of a job as NOLA drowned, just as he believes that Alberto Gonzales is a heck of an AG – even though Alberto can’t recall a single thing that went on in the DoJ under his supervision. (In fairness, perhaps Bush should be commended for employing the mentally impaired).

YOUR PRESIDENT is a patsy, the puppet of the PNACers who promised him he could cruise around on Air Force One if he only did their bidding – and didn’t bother his beautiful mind with questioning anything they told him to do.

But on the brighter side, he’s YOUR PRESIDENT, not mine – and his place in history as a clueless idiot is now assured.

As for our future president – who, thanks to your party’s support of the BushBaby, will be a Democrat - I have no doubt that he or she will do their best to undo the damage your president has done.

And they will do it on behalf of all Americans, not just their own party members – kind of like it was supposed to be all along.

when the photogs are gone, he goes inside to watch TV. And it will take a loooong time to undo his damage.

It will take a generation or more to undo the damage the Bushies have done to this country and the rest of the world.

And 4.5 billion years (half life) in Iraq, where our military has ravaged the country with depleted uranium.

30. As a native Texan
my repugnance at Bush being selected president by a corrupt SCOTUS was only equaled when for some reason still unknown to me, people decided that Reagan would be a peachy keen POTUS. I have been in a state of disbelief ever since. The utter stupidity of some people is completely incomprehensible to me. Maybe I'm just getting too old to understand.

Whatever it is, Nancy, I love your rants. The disaster that has been the Bush administration needs to end ASAP, and we need to try to put what's left of our democracy back together. I have grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-nephews. I want them to have a fighting chance in the future.

32. Add the voice of another Texan
Even if not native (Virginia-born).

One encouraging thing happened to me yesterday:
At the security check at CDG yesterday, when the
guy at the X-ray machine noticed I spoke French
and had an American passport, he asked me to what
extent people in America REALLY supported Bush's
Iraq folly. I said, well, not much at all, and as
a resident of Texas, I felt particularly ashamed
(he had never heard of the Dixie Chicks).

The guy said, "hey, there's no need to feel that
way. Surely there are other people in Texas that feel
the way you do. Just be proud to be one of them."
This was a hell more depth than I would expect
from a cop at a French security checkpoint, and I
was once again amazed at the political insight of
the common man in a country whose own politics are
famously chaotic. And it's a safe bet he had never
heard of Molly Ivins, either.

Nance, don't feel bad about being housebound for a
week. I'd give a LOT to be housebound for a week. I've
been in the German Rheinland, Brussels, Paris, and
now the Langley area of Virginia, and all that in the
last five days, and that's typical for me. A week in
the same place sounds pretty good to me!

You know something? The French cop was right. There ARE
plenty of people is Texans that feel the way I do, and I
am proud to be one of them. And not just Texans. In the
departure lounge in CDG yesterday, there was a tall guy,
must have been in his seventies, close-cropped hair, very
military-looking jacket, with a blue baseball cap. I was
expecting it to say "American Legion" or "82nd Airborne"
or something on it.

Nope.

It said, in big white letters, "IMPEACH BUSH"

Very proud, indeed.

43. Given our culture of non-readers...
I worry about the message in the first few paragraphs. We need non-partisan agreement that Bush needs to go, or else he's staying. Blaming those who voted for him doesn't accomplish this, not at all.

I know it's hard, but you don't win allies with vinegar. I want the man impeached. ASAP. As well as our VP. Until this becomes a non-partisan issue, it's not going to happen.

Blaming those who elected him doesn't help the cause for impeachment. It just makes someone feel better, and others feel defensive.

The last thing we need is for anyone to feel defensive about the decision they made 3 years ago, and not comfortable thinking that the man has got to go.

51. Support the Troops?
I am confused why NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE who has the ability to confront these scondrels and their supporters on their "Support the Troops", "Undermining the Troops", "How would the troops feel", "Fund the Troops" mantra with cold, hard facts!!

I just want to hear Chris Matthews, Tim Russert, David Gregory ask one of the wingnuts this simple question or a variation thereof:

"I hear you say 'Support the Troops' and spout concerns for our troops who are in harms way. While this is comendable, I am having trouble resolving this sentiment with cutting Veterans benefits to levels lower than before the Iraq war,the deplorabole conditions at Walter Reed, lack of body armor and training, extended tours, few armored humvees, placing our soldiers beside mercenaries who earn as much in a month than a soldier earns all year, pretending to search for weapons of mass destruction in the comfort of Washington while the troops fight his war, deceiving us into an unnessary war that puts our troops in harm's way for no reason whatsover....well, I could go on, but I can't seem to square the Republican mantra of 'Support the Troops' with these events. My question to you is, can you help me understand how you support the troops?"

Sigh, and even with all the opportunities to just ask HOW they support the troops, no one will present this question to a wingnut.

Anyhoo, Nance, thanks for reminding us that he is NOT our president, if only because he was never duly elected (in 2000 nor 2004), let alone his assertion that his loyalty is to those who voted for him and not the country.
:wow:

52. Every time I think I've just read the best Nance Greggs rant,
she outdoes herself. Nobody has to ask what Nance Greggs really meant by this, or anything else she's written (very Bill Moyersesque). Well done!

I only wish you didn't have so much to write about.

60. Let's not forget the phony crisis fabricated with hanging chads that
ushered in the "Help America Vote Act" that has now brought us:

devastatingly evil DRE's - paperless touchscreen "voting" on computers that nobody knows for sure how they're programmed

and/or optiscan machines that may contain modems- in every precinct or centrally and again nobody knows for sure how they're programmed --remember Pottawattamie County, Iowa!! http://www.bradblog.com/?p=2929

central tabulators that are susceptible to election results reversals in seconds --remember footage of Howard Dean demonstrating how to rig an election on Diebold GEMS central tabulator - see footage in "Votergate" documentary http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3555094491715905699

and all with no way to guarantee that elections results may be audited accurately

True, punchcards had their problems. The solution should have been and should STILL be:

hand counted paper ballots at the precinct level with security and citizen participation and oversight.

I'm printing this up and I'm going to make copies and, just for fun, I'm going to distribute them everywhere I go this coming weekend. I'm also going to give it to everyone I see. Maybe I'll even run into a freeper or Republic.

Oh, yippppeeyyy! I just remembered...I have a Impeach Bush & Cheney T-shirt I can where! BOO-YOW!
