Hillary's response to Rudy's remarks...
"There are people right now in the world, not just wishing us harm but actively planning and plotting to cause us harm. If the last six years of the Bush Administration have taught us anything, it's that political rhetoric won't do anything to quell those threats. And that America is ready for a change.

"One of the great tragedies of this Administration is that the President failed to keep this country unified after 9/11. We have to protect our country from terrorism – it shouldn't be a Democratic fight or a Republican fight. The plain truth is that this Administration has done too little to protect our ports, make our mass transit safer, and protect our cities. They have isolated us in the world and have let Al Qaeda regroup. The next President is going to be left with these problems and will have to do what it takes to make us safer and bring Democrats and Republicans together around this common mission of protecting our nation. That is exactly what has to be done and what I am ready to do."

Good strong statement...no mention of Guiliani...

My read is she is trying to tie the Republican field more closely to George Bush, drive down their popularity by association...especially Rudy

1. Hmm... I think she should have gone ahead and made it about Giuliani.
Specifics here. Get him on the defensive. McCain's already looking weird and outdated, and recent polls even have Bill Richardson beating Romney, much less the Democratic front runners.

I think Obama did a great response:

Which is not to say Hillary's is bad. I'm jmust glad that the Democrats are responding, insteading of just taking it, or responding defensively.

14. All the candidates should be calling Rudy on his bullshit
I like Obama for taking it to Rudy personally and I like how Hillary made it about this awful administration.

"I'm jmust glad that the Democrats are responding, insteading of just taking it, or responding defensively."

A-fucking-men!

2. "the President failed to keep this country unified after 9/11"
That's a great way to illustrate his ineffectiveness, by using the very 9/11 mantra he so loves.

21. AND, he and his republican administration FAILED
completely to keep the nation safe BEFORE 9/11. This should be beat to death. Why should we believe they and only they can keep us safe, when they havent done it since they've been in power.

7. Yes, I pulled my dig because you deserve your enjoyment of your candidate.
Yes, Carter is such a wimp ... him being a former decorated Navy Officer. Yeah, a real pushover. :eyes:

5. Good statement. No need to sling mud, people know who's a Repug and who isn't.
It's the GOPers who are trying to distance themselves from their party, and we must make sure they can't.

Iraq war = Republicans
Corruption = Rupublicans
Cronyism = Rupublicans
Big government = Rupublicans
Lying = Rupublicans
Spying = Rupublicans
Failure to support the troops = Rupublicans
Immoral = Rupublicans
Unethical = Rupublicans
Fascism = Rupublicans

See? It's not that hard to do. ;)

6. Kudos to her for making a statement but it's not strong enough.
Democrats need to make brazen attacks on Republicans with stronger fear tactics of our own against THEM. If Republicans wanna scare voters, well then two can play that game. Give 'em a much stronger dose of their own medicine. Make voters afraid of all-out Republican-induced nuclear war if a Republican is elected president, or something along those lines.

18. The kind of nastiness you advocate
is reserved for the surrogates traditionally to keep the candidates clean and shiny bright.

So it is written.

9. When is someone going to say "Rudy will keep us in Iraq?"
He said so, didn't he? He's going to keep us in Iraq and start more wars. He's learned nothing from the last four years and is an admirer of George W. Bush.

Tie him to Bush and Iraq and he is finished. Look at what happened to McCain!

11. Also..
"The next President is going to be left with these problems and will have to do what it takes to make us safer and bring Democrats and Republicans together around this common mission of protecting our nation. That is exactly what has to be done and what I am ready to do."

Why share your vision of the future and your solutions to it's problems with other candidates of both parties?

Should read:

"As president, I have what it takes to make us safer around this common mission of protecting our nation. That is exactly what has to be done and what I am ready to do."

12. When the get a chance to respond
when the media carries that response....I think the democrats should hit back hard at cheney and bush and rudi and mccain and all the rest. CNN gave a clip of mccain on The Daily Show and the clip seemed to show that mccain got the best of Stewart. The exact opposite. But the country (because most don't have cable) didn't see the real spot and they don't know what happened...I say it over and over and over...we have to get to the media.........we have to get OUR message out there. It is a shame that some democratic organization does not start their own cable or network programs that tell the country what is really going on and give both sides to the arguments.

15. She avoids a head-on attack

Just political talking points, nothing from the gut. It appears the only people willing to stand up to these right-wing canary island bullshit artists are people with nothing to lose (Kucinich) or who are out of office anyway (McGovern).

Not enough that she takes the correct position, or comes out with a strong statement...

Now it has to be in the correct literary style to satisfy people...
