BushCo's Diabolical Plan Revealed: A Strategery Of Stupidity
Bloggers and clever DUers proved this week that BushCo's stupidity isn't just a byproduct of nepotism, cronyism, or even downright dumbassery; it's BushCo "strategery" at its finest. Aw, come on! What else could explain: Nobody suffers more than Laura & George W.? BushCo has banned security checks in the West Wing? Rove acts like Sheryl Crow has cooties? Fred Thompson sends his wife's attack boobs to topple Wolfowitz? Gingrich blames Halloween costumes for the Virginia tech killings? Seriously, you can't make up stupidity like this. It must be strategic. Shake your head... and enjoy!

Nobody Does It Better Than Laura!

Suffering, that is. Not the troops, not their families, not the wounded. Nobody. From Laura's horse mouth via AmericaBlog:

Listen, you Americans, Laura Bush wants you to know the President is suffering over Iraq. In fact, Laura told Anne Curry on the Today Show, that the American people need to know that "no one is suffers more than their President and I do." No one? She's as delusional as her husband. Of course, her husband is the person who caused the suffering -- and is the one person who can end it.

I would wager that there are 3,300 families in America that are suffering more than George Bush. And, there are tens of thousands of injured soldiers who are literally suffering.

Suffering, my ass.

Click the link in the blog post to watch Laura lie. Don't forget to check out her new face work. Maybe she's confusing plastic surgery suffering with her husband's war. Nope, nobody does it better, unless it's Monica...

Goody, Goody! Goodling's Immunity Deal

Yep, Think Progress has the details on the House Judiciary Committee's vote to offer "the keys to the kingdom" gal immunity in exchange for her testimony in the matter of Alberto Gonzales and the US Attorney Firings scandal. (Whew! Try saying that in one breath.) What remains to be seen: whether Monica morphs into a cute version of Oliver North or plays dumb purposely for the boss.

Security Banned In The West Wing?

Remember when Repubs pitched a walleyed fit about the Clintons leaving a travel file on a coffee table? Good God Almighty, you'd have thought the world as we know it had come to an end. Fast forward to today's BushCo botching, namely Threat Level's report of BushCo's No Security policy inside the West Wing. Blogger Luke O'Brien writes:

After an Oversight Committee hearing last month in which James Knodell, the chief security officer at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., testified that the White House Security Office had done nothing to investigate the source of the Valerie Plame leak, "multiple" security officers from the White House approached Waxman to complain about the loose ship being run at the presidential residence.

And what were the three main complaints? The White House regularly ignored security breaches, no West Wing inspections allowed, and the White House Security Office "flouted" security rules. No worries, though. It's not like it's a dangerous world out there, right? It's not like the entire world hates George Bush with a purple passion or anything, right? Security schemurity. This security scandal would be Bad with a capital B if a Democrat lived at 1600 Penn. Ave. Right? But Bush can always play the idiot card, and we all know he will. Anything to cover up his West Wing boozing is... um, fine by the frat boy.

Who's The Greatest Living American?

According to Google, it's Stephen Colbert. Despite reports that Google-bombing no longer works, Search Engine Land's explanation is... well, truthiness worthy:

The change Google made back in January was designed to stop pages ranking for terms if a lot of people linked to them using those terms but the pages themselves didn't use the words. Everyone want to call George W. Bush a miserable failure? His page no longer ranks for that since the page itself doesn't use those words. OK, so it did just rank again recently, due to the White House using one of them. But the word is gone now -- and the page has dropped back down in the rankings.

The Colbert Report's home page uses NONE of the words (because Stephen, who is modest, has no need to declare himself the greatest). Here's Google confirming that the site ranks for that term solely based on links to it:

For instructions on how this Google-bomb was accomplished, read the entire Search Engine land post. Hmm. If Stephen Colbert is the world's greatest living American, what does that make Karl Rove?

Rove To Sheryl Crow: "Don't Touch Me!"

If you missed Karl Rove's "Sheryl Crow Has Cooties" tantrum at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner, Laurie David and Sheryl Crow have blogged it for you at The Huffington Post. Here's a snippet:

In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, "Don't touch me." How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, "You can't speak to us like that, you work for us." Karl then quipped, "I don't work for you, I work for the American people." To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, "We are the American people."

And Now For The Rest Of The Story...

Think Progress captured White House spokesmodel Dana Perino's defense of Bush (make that Rove?) Let's face it: the girl's as confused as Cher in "Clueless" when it comes to debating Bush's environmental record.

At this afternoon's White House press conference, spokeswoman Dana Perino launched into a snippy tirade against Sheryl Crow and Laurie David for approaching Karl Rove on Saturday night to discuss the administration's environmental policies:

"I think it's unfortunate that people who have an impassioned view about a topic don't take the time to afford the President the same respect that they are asking for. The President's record on climate change is very strong," Perino said. "I don't know know why they can't take yes for an answer." She added, "I wish they would channel some of that Hollywood energy into something constructive rather than baseless finger-pointing."

Meanwhile, back at the correspondents' dinner... Soon-to-be-unemployed Paul Wolfowitz had no problem being touched by Fred Thompson's wife's... um, breasts. Josh Marshall explains:

A time-out from the scandal. World Bank Prez Paul Wolfowitz shares a moment with Jeri Kehn, wife of fmr. Senator and possible Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner ...

Not to be outdone by Rove and Wolfowitz, Newt Gingrich (R- Disgraced But Not Humiliated) created his own stink bomb on the blogs this week by pulling his old "Liberals are to blame" for (fill in the blank) out of his ass. This time, it's the Virginia Tech shootings. Crooks and Liars has the video and this:

GINGRICH: Yes, I think the fact is, if you look at the amount of violence we have in games that young people play at 7, 8, 10, 12, 15 years of age, if you look at the dehumanization, if you look at the fact that we refuse to say that we are, in fact, endowed by our creator, that our rights come from God, that if you kill somebody, you're committing an act of evil.

STEPHANOPOULOS: But what does that have to do with liberalism?

GINGRICH: Well, who has created a situation ethics, essentially, zone of not being willing to talk about any of these things. Let me carry another example. I strongly supported Imus being dismissed, but I also think the very thing he was dismissed for, which is the use of language which is stunningly degrading of women - the fact, for example, that one of the Halloween costumes this last year was being able to be either a prostitute or a pimp at 10, 11, 12 years of age, buying a costume, and we don't have any discussion about what's happened to our culture because while we're restricting political free speech under McCain-Feingold, we say it's impossible to restrict vulgar and vicious and anti-human speech.

And I would argue that that's a major component of what's happened to our culture in the last 40 years.

Halloween costumes and McCain-Feingold? Note to Newt: It's way past time for your medication, Pal!

So Many Pictures, So Little Web Space

Have you seen The Daily Background's "The Top 15 Most Embarrassing Photos of George W. Bush?" If not, here's #15 in the countdown:

15. Juxtaposition can be a killer

On the right, we have a 2005 headline proclaiming that the House of Representatives has banned gay unions. On the left, we have a picture of Bush holding hands with Saudi Prince Abdullah. Juxtaposition can be a killer. In fact, holding hands is quite common among men who are (just) friends in some parts of the middle east, but it still struck some as odd that Bush would try to emulate this part of Saudi culture.... at his ranch in Texas. By the way, the Senate never passed the civil union ban, although Abdullah did eventually become King of Saudi Arabia, months after this photo was taken.

Those are definitely some awesomely ouch-inducing photos of Gee Dubya, but don't forget to check out the ones that didn't make The Daily Background's cut. Look for the link at the end of the blog post.

John McCainiac: Batshit Beach Boy Wannabe

Check out HuffPo for the commentary, and click over to TPM for the video.

That's some wild & wacky campaigning, McCain! Or is it just "BushCo Strategery of Stupidity" envy rearing it's ugly head? Enough stupidity for now; instead it's time to...

Thank A DUer!

Thanks to 48percenter for condensing Alberto Gonzales' senate testimony so succinctly:

It's hard out here for a Chimp! (enabler)

Well put, 48percenter!

Thanks for the chuckle, Rocknrule:

What happens when a Republican takes Viagra?

He gets taller

And thanks to Somawas for this post and link:

George W. Bush clearing brush on his ranch on vacation.

How perfect.

And on black velvet.

But you have to read the description of the Velvet Republicans to believe it.

Hm. Ya gotta wonder if one of the Bush On Velvet lovers wrote the stupidest letter to an editor ever printed :

Thanks to CatWoman for the pic!

Outstanding work this week, DUers! The gold star goes to mogster, though, for creating a simple MSWord-looking code tool for use on chat boards like DU:

The DU-o-matic codificator is here!

On my way to improving the publishing system, I've made a tool that does automatic inserts of the DU-codes. It's really handy, you just mark the text you want to 'codify', and then it wraps the text when you push the button for the code you want. Especially handy if you have a lot of links to go in your text, blog style. You don't even have to remove the http: // !! :P When the text is finished, just paste it into the DU post form.

It's a plain html file with no server-generated stuff, so if you want it locally, just save it to your disk and upload it to your server.

Tested in Mozilla, Internet Exploder and Opera, but will probably work elsewhere, as long as you have javascript enabled.

Test the DU-o-matic codificator today, it will color your day!

Awright, I didn't know where to post this, so it went into the GD. If the DU wants to use it, it's of course all in the opensource area, released under the B.E.E.R license.

I tested mogster's DU-o-matic codificator, and it worked like a charm for me (using Firefox and enabling javascript). Instead of downloading the code, I saved the link to my personal toolbar, which now makes composing, copying and pasting into a DU-like post as easy as pie. You rock, mogster!

Forrest Gump's mother knew best. Stupid really is as stupid does. Pretend you're a Repub and ask yourself: Would you settle for being called stupid if it meant that you escaped indictment? If you answered in the negative, you obviously don't work for the Bush administration. As always, thanks for the great links, everyone. Keep fighting the tightie righties and check back next week for more blog bombshells and DU doings!

1. Connie M. Meskimen on Daylight Savings
I think you might need to turn up your sarcasm-meter. Connie M. Meskimen, a lawyer in Little Rock, has a habit of sending sarcastic comments to his local paper. You should check out Snopes.com http://www.snopes.com/humor/letters/daylight.asp

Never again will I misunderestimate Dubya and BushCo. I had no idea it was all part of grand plan.
